I think the only chance we have to win this game is if Anthony Jennings pops up like Mettenberger did on his first starting year against Bama

AJ can make the long pass down the field, sometimes ... He can also make the short pass, sometimes. Just like how Mett was.
when Bill Walsh would evaluate players in the draft for the 49ers, he focused more on their highlights and best games instead of their bad ones. He thought that showed what the player was truly capable of becoming, despite whatever mistakes they might have made between those great plays. if they were physically capable of doing something once, they should be able to do it again.

so, with Jennings, we know that he CAN throw an absolutely great deep ball, even while getting hit.

and while rolling out

and we know he can make a strong intermediate throw

and that he can make plays under pressure, like here against Florida, on 3rd and 25 while down late in the 4th (btw Jennings is standing a little over 30 yards from the sideline, on the 25, and Dural catches it on the 27. unless Im mistaken thats about a 60 yard throw, and his fricking feet arent even set).

and that he can put great touch on the ball

now, obviously he's struggling overall and no one is happy with the passing game, but we do know he CAN make these throws, and we know that because I'm fricking watching him do it right now. he just needs to put it all together, and hopefully Cam can at least get him closer to that point for the next 2 games.

Nice work. Jennings seems to do better when there's a sense of urgency. Arkansas, Wisconsin, and Florida. I guess he doesn't have time to overthink the situation, and just plays on instinct. Jamarcus had similar tendencies. We need to get THAT Anthony early in the game.

Yeah we lost that game

If we're ahead by four with two minutes left driving down the field and we start playing for a field goal, I'm turning the game off.

Harris does too. When it's 0-0, we just need to pretend we're down 24-3.

What coach doesn't teach his quarterback not to turn the ball over?

Lol. Every coach drills that into the mind of their players. Every single one.

I think the conservative play by our offense that people are expecting to see will eventually take place in this game once we settle in, but I can't imagine the LSU staff playing themselves out of the game by halftime like they did against Auburn. I think we will see more passing attempts early on in this game on early downs when we can hold the safeties closer to the line of scrimmage. I don't think we will see a much different scheme, but I do think we are going to try to really go for this game against Ole Miss and put them on their heels early.

when LSU has run tempo this year, and last year during arkansas, they have looked good.

i actually think this is what Miles and Cam are trying to install, what they want the offense to be. not uptempo necessarily, but deep balls, throws which Jennings and Harris are both really good at and which fit our fast, physical WRs. these will push the safety's and LBs back and open up his beloved power run game; the RBs will get through the line and have nothing but space in front of them.

now, obviously this is a work in progress (Zach, Hill, Landry, and Beckham accounted for 82 percent on LSUs offensive yards last year), so its been rough at times, but i do think that is the plan. and it will be fricking awesome to watch.

It wasn't so much that Mettenberger all of a sudden became a good QB that night, it was that Les was backed into a corner in the first half and realized that he HAD to throw the football to try and win the game. Bama wasn't going to just let LSU line up and run the ball over and over.

It's kind of funny. On several occasions when Les had no choice but to open up the passing game (Ark. last year, Wisc. and Fla.) Jennings has generally delivered with clutch plays. Who knows? Maybe the problem isn't (and never has been) the QBs, but a HC that doesn't trust or allow them the chance to succeed?

Ole Miss isn't unbeatable. All AJ has to do is manage the game. Complete a few 3rd down conversions with the run or pass. We win this game with the oline.

no but it was the night things finally came together for him. it was his 8th game, his 5th SEC game; in the previous 4 he threw for 46.3 percent. vs bama that jumped almost 25 percent to 68.6.

you think this board is unhinged and whiny about QB development now? holy frick you should have seen all "hes simply not an SEC QB", "I told you Miles couldn't develop a QB", and "Beckham and Landry should just transfer" posts after that Texas AM game.

100 percent not true. LSU had 83 rush yards in the first quarter vs bama, 112 in the first half. Miles threw more vs bama because these things take time and Mett had finally become Mett.

I agree 100%. cam is a "chunk yardage" OC. you can tell the plays that he calls. especially last year. in the first few games, LSU was using his offense a lot... in the UF game last year, it kind of bogged down to what we're seeing now on a lot of plays. I have to believe miles tells him to take the air out at times. the offense won't work unless the chunk plays are connecting. leading the country in 3rd downs is what I wish we were doing again this year though...
