With all of the disparate evaluation of JJ going on, I thought it would be interesting to compare his sophomore stats to that of Jamarcus Russell:

Russell:
Comp/Att: 188/311 60.5%
Yards: 2443
QB Rating: 136.6
Touchdowns/Ints: 15/9
Yds Rushing: -22

Jefferson:
Comp/Att: 169/272 62.1%
Yards: 1954
QB Rating: 137.79
Touchdowns/Ints: 16/6
Yds Rushing: 160

Not bad for Jefferson. Especially when you consider that he is a true soph, while Russell was a redshirt soph. Also, I think we had a much better running game in 2005 and our O-line was better than this year's unit.

There's nothing to "think" about. 05 O-line >>>>> 09 O-line

Those stats are from before the game last night. Since JJ sat out the La Tech game, you need to add in the stats from last night to make it comparable.

Russell had a much better OL, a better running game, and arguably better WRs.

According to the LSU website, those stats include the Arkansas game.

We averaged under 120 yds per game in 05.

Passing game was average much of the year as well.

That was a year where we reallly had to rely on defense to win games.

Wrong. He had 14 TD's and 5 INT's before the game last night. 2 TD's and 1 INT last night gives him 16/6 for the season. Total yardage is over 1900 as well.

So you're suggesting LSU is going without an SEC or BCS title for the next two yrs, like they did with JR?

Good point and favors JJ if this is accurate. But IMHO, he will neve lead LSU to a SECCG. If he does, my hat is off to him.

I could live with more INT's and more offensive production.

That's strange, the LSU site has the Arkansas game included but not the Ole Miss game:

you have to have a smart QB to win a championship. Someone like the Flynn

No doubt flynn was smart, but he threw more INT's in his senior season than JJ did in his sophmore one.

how do you explain that?

Does anyone else think the first touchdown was an interception? It was just intercepted by Lafell instead of Arkansas? He was definitely throwing that ball to Toliver and Lafell came and took it away.
