Nope. Just so many basketball games and friends during those years. Mr. 24/7 was one of them. He was real wealthy coming from Brooklyn...
dale was a great motivator, but a scum underneath and I am surprised that he wasn't caught sooner.
I promise you. Go talk to ANY basketball player from 1982-1989 about summer jobs for ROS.
Also, do you remember John Williams sgning? He used to sit at a track with a bookie "that was his mentor" when he came out of LA. That was a HUGE signing as anyone who knows LSU basketball would agree.
I think that guy could have been in the class with Shaq and Pete if he kept his weight off. he was so gifted with the ball. Loved watching him play. I do believe he was on the take though.

Yep. He is on that list so are several who had summer jobs with the company from my home town.
It is not important now since all of those guys are gone. If anyone on here thinks that I am blowing smoke, go ask a few of these guys when you see them about summer jobs arranged by the athletic dept. They would say. "Man it was hard cutting that grass around those oil wells"...I will leave it at that.

It was ROS, not RSO. I transposed the two letters. it is late for me.
anyway, I didn't know John just a couple of others on that team. Don't know and didn't comment about him b/c I don't remember him working for them.

I lived with one of the LSU baseball players back when Skip was the coach and we never paid a bill when we went out to eat at 3 or 4 local restaurants. Is Skip a scumbag b/c of it?

Let me start out by saying, Dale has done more good for more folks, more genuine acts of compassion than I'll every do in my lifetime. I mean really geunuine heartfelt acts for so many down on their luck.

But he was a very complex guy. A very eccentric and paranoid guy who kept files in his office on nearly everyone he came across.
And he IMHO was notoriously vindictive.

Earl re-canting his story...eh...he probably changed it back and forth a few times. For me that doesn't really change much. There were other infractions aside from Earl accusing Jones of giving him cash.

Dale and Johnny were both complicit IMHO, and Dale never once took one iota of a of accountability or responsibility, left Redfield Bryan twisting in the wind all the while making it harder on LSU by comparing the NCAA with the Gestapo and Concetration camp killers.

Johnny Jones is a good friend of my brother-in-law from back in his LSU days, but I don't want the Dale Brown legacy and network back at my school. If Trent doesn't work out...and I'm not yet ready to conceed that...let's go another route....please

He was mentored by Dale, and that's not out of line with some of Dale's antics.

Remember Dale goose stepping out on the open highway because the State Policeman would not let him off on a traffic ticket? Jones had to literally pull him back in the car. Dale was obsessed with comparing everyone to Nazis.

Or Dale calling the campus policewoman "a butch cop" who came to break up a dorm fight between football and hoops players?

Had and old friend who managed the LSU hoops team back when Dale and Johnny in those days and family very close to the LSU program. Lots of interesting stories.

Often stange and embarrassing but LSU hoops was at least not boring in those days.

believe what you want. it is really okay. I know what I saw and knew those doing it.
Ask Jose Vargas if you want about a few things that went on.

dude shouldn't have parked in johnny's spot.

i've met dale brown, don't know him, heard both the good and bad. i suspect they are both true.

i know johnny. he was a friend during our days at LSU and hung out often during his tenure here in memphis. johnny is a great guy.

the system is corrupt. johnny and dale just got caught up in the selective prosecution.

AAU, shoe people, and runners have made even more corrupt today.

johnny was made the scape goat for the LE allegations. lsu should have stood behind him. right or wrong, he was doing the same thing every assistant coach in the country was doing.

all that said, i'm in no way suggesting TR be fired any time soon. 2 more seasons at least.

Jake unless some time has healed some pretty hard feelings, I doubt Johnny would ever even consider going back to LSU.
