Well he had a senior Blake Sims running the offense. Wouldn't have been the same with Jacob Coker at the helm.

Sims had virtually the same amount of actual experience as either of LSU's QBs despite the fact that he was a Senior. Hell, he was as RB early in his career. Plus, it was Kiffin's first season as OC. Therefore whoever was the QB was still learning and running new system. Still, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out (regardless of the QB) that it's probably a good idea to get the ball in the hands of your best player on offense in anyway possible.

I'm not saying that Diarse was LSU's best offensive player. But the guy was huge and made plays the few times he was asked to against Wisc. then is virtuallly forgotten the rest of the year until the A&M and ND games, when "shockingly" he made plays again when they tried to get the ball in his hands.

DAT ARSE! Flashes maybe, the poor kid will be lucky to get 4-6 touches a game.

That's actually a lot of touches for a WR in a rushing offense. 30+ catches would be nice production from Diarse, IMHO.

He scored a TD in each of the last 2 games. Hes pretty reliable if someone can get the ball in his hands.

And it seems that Chark has the inside track to the WR3 spot after a very impressive spring.

Despite a good spring, Chark probably hasn't overtaken Diarse for that role IMO. Diarse can be a match-up problem in the slot.

Chark ran with the 1s all spring long and was 1 of the most impressive players we had in the spring. He's clearly WR3 and ahead of both Quinn and Diarse.

And during the spring, the staff put Dupre in the slot to get him favorable matchups and love what they saw from him there. We're gonna move him inside and out to get the matchups we want for him.

Cam Cameron on Dupre playing slot:
quote:

"You couldn't help but come away thinking Malachi is really improved. Moving him into the slot is a good move for him so he can play inside and outside. You saw Chark make a great play."

Our 3 best WRs are Dural, Dupre, and Chark. And it's clear the coaches want speed on the outside and use Dupre as a mismatch type of player and line him up all over the place.

That doesn't mean that Diarse won't see quality PT though. Because he will, so will Quinn and Tyron Johnson as well. The good thing about our WR group is that they are versatile and bring diff things to the table. Dural and Chark and burners that can take the top off of any D. Dupre is a monster talent with elite size and jumping ability and is able to go up and make plays over DBs. Quinn and Diarse are inside WRs, but different skills. Quinn is that finesse slot WR that has very good quickness and speed and knows how to get open. Diarse is a physical WR that can out muscle guys and go get the ball.

They all will see the field. Add in DeSean Smith ability to catch the ball as a TE and our elite running game, we should be very hard to matchup with and should be able to pick and choose where we want to attack.

To be honest, we may not even have a defined third WR. Between Chark, Diarse, Quinn, and Johnson, a lot of it will depend on who we want to go after in the secondary. I remember reading in the spring that Cam wants to cross-train our WR's for match-up purposes.
quote:

“[This spring was] a lot different,” offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said when asked to compare his receivers’ versatility now to last fall. “When you think about how many first-time players we had last year, playing a first-year player at many positions is challenging. So Malachi now, we can move him to the X, the Z, the F. John Diarse can now play the X, the Y, the Z and the F. Chark now kind of a newcomer, we’re playing him at one spot. Travin can play X, Y, Z or F if he needed to. Those are good things for us. It’ll give us a lot of flexibility.”

LINK With Chark's speed, just put him on the outside and let him run.

I agree with that

Dural and Dupre will be on the field most of the time. But alot of WRs will see PT at the WR3, WR4, etc. and a lot of it will depend on the opponent, game plan, and situations. But I think we see Chark as the WR3 most of the time. Considering the type of spring he had, what the coaches and other players have said about him, and running with the 1s in the spring game... Sounds like he's gonna be the 1 to get first shot at holding down the WR3 spot and is the guy to beat out.

But the others will certainly get in the game as well. And they better be ready when their number is called because if they aren't, there's 3 or 4 guys that are highly talented breathing down their necks and fighting for PT.

Sparse will gain consistency throughout his career and be a solid contributor. He's a playmaker with the ball in his hands and I'm very glad he's on our team.

he was a 5th yr senior. no sense at all to compare those two.. true freshman vs 5th year in a program.. gotta give these young qbs time man.. this is not a vanilla HS spread offense.. it is a pro style that takes a few years to really get down and thats if you work hard.. there is a reason why we have one of the top teams in the nation at sending wr's to the nfl.. with many having early success..
