This is absolutely untrue. Some fans hated him, but he hardly hated the fans. Saban hated the fans. Skip hated the fans. Brady was a genuinely nice guy if you ever met him and weren't trying to tell him how to do his job.

Have you ever had a personal conversation with John Brady? I was also really good friends with a couple of players on his teams. I outright asked Ronald Dupree one day in class how he felt about Brady. His response was a chuckle and "That's just coach."

I'll take "things you can get away with if you're a winner Alex."

If Saban were a mediocre to poor coach he'd likely have an office across the hall from John at Ark St.

I liked the guy and thought he was a good defensive coach, just too inconsistent during his time. Here are his records from '00 through his last season. I threw out his first two years because of what he walked into.

We were on probation through '02, right?

Also as far as his Ark St accomplishments that someone referred to earlier--what Sun Belt teams have made the NIT recently? Seems like a shitty conference.

Two problems: perceived by some fans :

1. John Brady was not Billy Donovan.
2. Les Miles is not Nick Saban.

umm yea, let's say I know the guy. I spent a year of my life listening to him and watching him closely. Let me give you a glimpse of John Brady the coach.

Practice starts at 3PM, Pierre gets there at 2:30 and talks to the players and checks on them. At 3 they either go into the meeting room for gameplan, or just out to the court where Brady is waiting. Brady spends 3/4 practice on defense and yelling obscenities and calling most the kids pussies. During which, there are numerous near fights with the players or coaches.

I have witnessed Big Baby throw a chair Bobby Knight style and try to attack Brady while Tack and D-Mitch were telling him Brady ain't worth it. I watched as he told the team after a loss that Brandon Bass was the only real player on the team and everyone else should thank him for their scholarships. Then when they went back to the locker room, everybody wanted to fight Bass who promptly got up and started talking insane shite about Brady.

I give Brady props because the kids who stayed he made mentally stronger. It's hilarious though that he ran 2 kids off a year, but people say he's NOT a dick. I just gave a quick 2 examples. I could sit here and type for 4 hours and tell you stories. But you either a) wouldn't believe them or b) they wouldn't change your mind.

Guys like Darrel Mitchell, Taz, Darnell Lazare, Temple..those guys are wired differently and strongly. That '06 team was so special because almost all of them had an upbringing that in some form or fashion molded them to be able to handle those things.

The best thing John Brady ever did was NOT let Josh Maravich play for Senior day. Kid didn't show up to practice for 2 months, shows up the day of the game for Senior day and is expected to play.

I met Saban once at the golf course and he was nice as could be. Does that mean he's a nice guy? Survey says no.

you can be an a-hole to players and fans if you're winning championships

I guess my point is people put up with shite when you are winning. I thought he was a good coach, but honestly that final 4 run was all dudes from baton rouge. I don't know how much that had to do with his recruiting ability.

Maybe Brady could have weathered the storm if he wasn't a total asswipe that alienated even the program's biggest supporters.

Not only the supports, but the players. He seemed to have a lot of players leave--and I'm not talking stars leaving early.

Perhaps a capable coach (tho Ark St may prove otherwise), but a questionable leader of young men. Leaders create commitment, Brady seemed to favor compliance.

LSU went to 10 straight tournaments under Dale and 13 tournaments in 15 years.

25 - 13 = 12. 13 years of tournaments, 12 years of no tournaments.

Brady had 4 years of tournaments and 6 without. Brady inhereted a team on probation based on Brown's violations. Take out the probation years and their tournament average is basically the same. Even with the probation, he was on the same final four pace, same sweet 16 pace same SEC championship pace etc etc.

Why is MG even bringing up JB? How is JB even relevant to LSU vs. NCS 2015 basketball?

JB had his moments at LSU, but in 10 yrs. he was like 20 games under .500 in the SEC and in his last 2 seasons here he was 10 games under .500.

Seems to me he was "appreciated" just bout as much as his success called for, but each to our own.

Above average x and o coach. He brought in Stro but other than that didn't do a good job recruiting. He got handed 4-5 area boys who was a perfect fit from Temple.

For starters, he also brought in Ronald Dupree, Jabari Smith, Jaime Lloreda, Lamont Roland, Anthony Randolph, Chris Johnson, Regis Koundjia, etc.

I loved the way Brady's team played. Good hard nosed basketball. His biggest problem was keeping his bench players happy. He must not have been a good communicator with these kids . Never had the depth needed to overcome natural attrition and erratic play by his starters. His accomplishments are ignored because of how crass he was at the end of his reign .
