[re: How much of the offense will LSU show in Week 1?]

Question: "Do you expect to break out all the new stuff?"

Joe Burrow: "We're going to have to show everything. Georgia Southern is too Good"

Do you expect Coach O to listen to your advice?

I love his enthusiasm, but I doubt that it actually happens. It would go against everything we've seen from Coach O so far. He's always been very conservative with the offense vs the small schools.

Doubt Burrow would talk about anything O wasn't 100% on board with. But, I'd imagine that plays will be added to the offense every week.

Sounds like LSU will throw everything at Ga Southern that is ready to roll. I'm excited to see it!

That was also my thinking until I heard Burrow say it.

May be somewhat scaled back. But I no longer think it will be totally plain vanilla. I think we'll see some fireworks. Hope so, anyway.

Why in the frick do we talk about showing the playbook?

Clemson played Ga Southern last year. Won 28-7. I rewatched it on YouTube their offense didn’t hide anything!!! Same spread Clemson offense we’ve seen the last few years under Dabo.

Good. I started a thread saying we should bust out the whole playbook and got demolished.

These guys are going to hang around, no doubt. Put their asses away.

When has "hiding the playbook" ever worked out for us.

frick that noise.

I hope we play wide open every game and blow some frickers out this season.

That’s because our offense was conservative. What you saw it what you got throughout the year. I always found it funny that some thought we were holding back.

Is Georgia Southern the team that held a 10-0 lead over Alabama (either last year or the year <)!
Mighta been Georgia State as both have fielded some respectable athletes in recent history. However, I may also be allowing basketball to enter into the confusion as i also know both have been competitive in the vaunted Sun Belt Conference.

(ULL/USL grad here, but not the LSU hating kind)

1 or the other had nick and co. on the ropes recently and all without heaving a single forward pass as I recall (in the 1st half)!

Apparently, Alabama recovered > halftime from the rigors of their typical of late - oh so brutal schedule, especially non-conference foes,to go on and carry the team to a hard fought victory!

Point of all the above jiberish: deeeep inhale-hold your breath-pause-then say: “...hey, these guys are pretty good”!

The offense we saw last year vs Southeastern and LA Tech isn't what we saw vs Auburn, UGA, A&M, etc.

Well, I truly believe LSU will run LSU's offense. Thus, not "hiding" anything.

However, in EVERY game, the Game-plan is a reduction from the total offensive playbook.

Example:

If Playbook has 100 plays, the OC (and staff) will select the plays it thinks are most successful against the Opponent D. They will then select the ones of THOSE that the LSU O is best at / most comfortable. The final list of plays may be 25 plays. Now, there are variations of each play / formation (example: WR routes will depend on the D alignment)

So, while they aren't "hiding" anything or "being conservative" (unless they were to determine that it is the best O against the opponent D that week - really bad Rush D?)...they are certainly never running "everything" in any given game.

ETA: I expect to see the No Huddle - Spread - 5 Man Protection - Tempo - RB and TE in the route tree offense that LSU will use this year.

There will be some growing pains with some new schemes, but we should win by 3 TD’s

It's the old Tom Landry (Dallas Cowboys) theory: Show them everything and they have to spend time preparing for it.
