What's the boards thoughts on Joe up to this point and how Oregeron / Wade could change his legacy at LSU?

He's a great fundraiser but has been very underwhelming at hiring.
Best hire is likely softball. Worst hire could be any number of coaches.

if O fails, Wade would have to turn us into a perennial powerhouse to even somewhat offset the stench of the facade that was last year's "search"

Orgeron's inevitable failure will end the reign of terror. The verdict is out on Wade. But if he is good, it only proves that even the worst AD will luck into a good hire if given enough chances.

He is currently a laughing stock and one of the worst AD's in the country. When he is done with LSU the Duke Lacrosse scandal will be one of his better moments in his career. F+

Gymnastics made the finals, Baseball did fine, softball did fine, Wade is wrecking shite so far. His new football HC embarrassed the Heisman winner, add to that retaining Aranda and hiring Canada.
Got the biggest screen in the country for basketball, secured a live mascot.

I wish this narrative would die. He stepped into his role less than a year after a football title and a year before a baseball title. Just as the "golden era" of LSU football was about to end, the SEC network money started rolling in.
But he's done some good things. Other than hire Trent Johnson, hire Johnny Jones, fail to fire Les the first time, fire Les to get an early advantage on Jimbo or Tom Herman, fail to land either of them, settle on Orgeron, keep Johnny Jones after his basketball team quit and refused to play on the post season, Alleva hired Will Wade.

An LSU athletic director's legacy hinges on the football hire, and I say that as someone who has an unhealthy obsession with Will Wade.
Alleva has done some great things for the school and some insanely idiotic things, much like most every other AD.
We'd have probably built his statue already if he got Jimbo like he wanted in 2015. Could you imagine if he hired Jimbo AND Will Wade? God status.
Anyway I'm not sure why you're blaming O or Alleva for Teuhema

When I tell people that Joe Alleva is the AD from Duke who mishandled the Lacrosse Scandal, they don't believe me. The next question is always, "Why the frick would LSU hire him?"

Positives:
Has upgraded facilities for non revenue sports to compete at a national level and they are.
Beautified the exterior of tiger stadium.
Keeps the money flowing in.
Is fighting for a beer sales in tiger stadium.
Avoids NCAA investigations and scandals.
Negatives:
Hiring in general especially bball pre wade.
I don't think the O hire is as lazy as most say it was. I believe his top two was Herman then O. I will give him a negative here because I believe he made an emotional decision in not trying to fight for Herman.
PR. The athletic department is horrible with public relations. Even when they are right (Florida last year) they come out looking bad.
Overall I'd say he is slightly above average. The hiring is a huge negative but he does do good things and I really believe the no major NCAA investigations deserve more credit than it gets.
