I love how people on this site act as if they know 100% either way.

If bama or Michigan had a chance to get their guy, would they not take it and complete the task?

If Bama was averaging 10 wins a season over the last 11-12 years, they might but only if the target was extremely successful and was somehow connected to Bryant, otherwise, I suspect they would stand pat.

Michigan....they went after Harbaugh because Hoke was not up to the job( 5-7 in 2014 and 7-6 in 2013) and getting his arse kicked week in and week out for the last 2 years. Anyone would have fired Hoke after last year , including F. King Alexander . Harbaugh came cheap ( comparatively) because he was let go by San Francisco they did not have to pay a buyout on him, just the 5 million a year and a one time 2 million signing bonus

I think you are right. And what a bold move it would be but maybe we could give the 7 million to GoodOleLess as a sign of making peace, and maybe extend his contract and up his buyout while we can before someone swoops down with a huge offer, and steals him away.

Unbelievable. The hayride has ZERO credibility. Does anyone remember purple and gold magazine?

What's not to buy? It's the obvious answer. He's making $5.5M and having a lot of success in a less demanding job with lower expectations.

But there should have been a plan b other than retaining Miles. Why do I have to provide names? I don't get paid to run that 100 million dollar a year business.

So, you're completely missing the point which is that in order for there to be an effective Plan B, there needs to be a once in a generation coach who is:

1. Available right now
2. Willing to go to LSU over USC, Georgia, and maybe Texas

No matter how much you pay the AD, or how good he may be at his job, he cannot just conjure this once in a generation talent up if he doesn't already exist. My question to you is, Is it not reasonable for the guy who is being paid to run this $100 million/year business to look out at his option once Jimbo said no and conclude that nothing out there is likely to upgrade our circumstances?

Don't forget an easier annual path to the playoffs.

This. I'm not sure how the hell Scott McKay became some sort of reality beacon in the midst of all of this bullshite, especially given his propensity to grind his axe at every possible turn.

So everybody go read the hayride article. Just don't give that cocksucker any of your hard earned money.

I don't think it takes a once in a generation coach to replace what we have now. Me and you are a long ways apart on agreeing on the caliber coach we have.

Why would he come to LSU who our AD just tried to let the world know if want to be the head coach at LSU you will be fired if you don't dominate Nick Saban and win NC's every three years. Lots of established coaches want that job!

I think we are very much far apart, largely because you seem unwilling to give credit where it's due. If it's so easy to find a Les, how come Tennessee 2X and Texas and USC times 2X and Michigan 2X and Florida 2X and Auburn and Nebraska and on and on couldn't find their Les?

Do you really think that just an average coach can step in do better?

Anyhow, my point to be more specific is that it will take a once in a generation coach to consistently compete with Saban at Alabama. There are no available candidates who appear to be on that trajectory.

lol yeah because Auburn, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and A&M are lighting the world on fire.
in any given year, these four schools would be listed ahead of any ACC program outside of Fla St and Clemson. Sometimes Georgia Tech and Miami would be in their midst, but at least as often, one of the SEC schools would be ahead of Clemson and challenging Fla St for the top spot.
