Not worried about it. He'll miss State and Auburn, but he'll be ready when the schedule really heats up. Jefferson will step in and they won't miss a beat.

I agree that we will be ok and still be a great defense while waiting for mills to return. But with something like this it's not really the different between 1 and 2 (mills and Jefferson) it's the difference between 5th and 6th DB where you worry about a drop off, or 6th and 7th. And not always just athletically but in preparedness and trust from the coaches.

I say this bc mills was going to slide down to nickel or inside corner when we go to nickel and dime. Now the drop off (however slight) will come down to that 6th or 7th DB that normally wouldn't have been in dime against auburn who likes to run spread and has a big QB. Say it's donte Jackson (as we will have to rotate at some point in that game): how well does he shed blocks when the QB goes read option, how well does he tackle at <175 lbs, how well does he know the calls as a FR in his third game? Mills though small was very physical at the point of attack and has seen everything there is to see in college. Think bama 2009 that one play Peterson came out (Julio jones housing that quick pass): Brandon Taylor was a hell of a ball player but one mistake can cost you a game

After saying all this we are in as good a shape at DB talent and depth wise as any team could hope to be so it's just nitpicking really. Just something I have been thinking about, and wanted to point out that simply having faith in Jefferson at back end isn't looking at the entire picture

Dwayne Thomas was the nickel last year before he got injured. Dwayne Thomas is healthy and will be our 3rd corner, playing nickel back, + with freshmen Dontee' Jackson and Kelvin Toliver we will have more depth in the secondary than last season.

Correct

We lose Martin, Collins, Robinson*, and temporarily mills from last year. Gained from last year: Thomas, and the freshman.

We are deep. My main point in my post was it isn't a drop off from mills to Jefferson that I'm worried about, but between the 6th to 7th DB in their first few games especially against the type of opponents in those games. I have no doubt donte can cover, I worry about an undersized freshman shedding a block and taking on dak on the perimeter. Not just physically but having to recognize and read the play.

dime: we would have had Jefferson/Adams at safety with white/mills/Thomas/Paris or toliver at CB. Now we will have toliver and Jackson playing that last corner spot in dime. All I was saying is without mills I worry about a true freshman in his second and third game in Dime against huge read option QBs in Prescott and Johnson.
But as I stated and we agree, we are as deep as anyone could hope to be at DB.

I see what you are saying. Yes, Dak & Johnson are some big physical QB's that will have to be tackled often. For our sake, I hope we see a lot gang tackling and defenders flying to the ball or else it could be a long afternoon.
I agree with Kirk Herbstreit and he agrees with me. This is our year. Too hungry, too talented, nothing better than serving some revenge on the road and than the very next week a revenge game in DEATH VALLEY.

What about all the tards who said a positive result from an x-Ray was a good

The post said the X-rays were positive, which in medicine means a problem was found.

Could have torn his Atf ligament and had syndesmosis injury, needing a screw drill through both bones to hold the ankle mortise together until ligament healed. Then you have screw removed 4-6 weeks later. I had this done

Mills is a star! U can not underestimate his value against Prescott and Auburn. Big fan of Ricky Jefferson's size and style of play but Mills can really play college secondary. Not only can Mills play both CB and Safety at a high level, he's the leader of the secondary. getting people in position and even calling the other teams play. All of this, along with White, allows Adams to roam around and LSU to be more aggressive in general.

I don't think he will miss the entire yr but I feel ya. All Sr's should be guaranteed a no major injury season. But I also think 6 weeks is a best case scenario and it's probably closer to 8/9 before he's really back.
