Jake latz update Reynold's was not 100% by April, he was not even 100% for the summer league he played in SW LA. I'm not even sure he is now. People have a short memory, Joey Bourgeois was a heavy contibutor as a fifth year senior and Nick Pontiff contributed on the field and through great leadership in 09. A few years before that, while not the pitcher her was his first 2 years, Lane Mestapay was a solid pitcher.

0% chance Latz is a fifth year senior at lsu ever. There's a strong possibility he leaves in 2017. As has been emphazied emphatically there is no point in reshirting him.

I think two weeks might be pushing it if he is completely shut down for the next five, and there is only one midweek game in May. But I agree someone could play themselves out also which would make the decision easier.

Feels good, back to 100 percent,” he said. “Ready to get to summer ball. Only got 14 games left. No point in wasting a redshirt (this season).”

This was his quote last season

He might give us some innings late in the season. It's always good to have an extra arm.

The reason he sat out the whole season though was because he had a surgical operation, Latz hasn't had surgery.

I hope you don't think this means he was ready to pitch in a game. He might have been completely healed with full strength back, but I doubt he was game ready at that point. Because we sure as hell could have used him as thin as we were in the bullpen last year.

My guess, and it really is just a guess. Is that there were microtears in the UCL much like Ranaudo. It causes some fluid but no permanent damage as long as he rests. The fluid is visible, but the microtears are not. He could pitch if it was a necessary thing. But we have the luxury to by cautious with how good our starters and bull pen have been. So you stay on the safe side and give him as much time as he needs.

Thats my point exactly with latz. He hasn't really thrown since the summer. If he cant throw for another five weeks it will take him at least two weeks to knock rust off and that puts us at regionals. I just dont see him throwing this year but hey that's my opinion

No it doesn't. That puts us with 3 SEC series left.

Alright, this clears it up.

Jake Latz’s MRI came out “pretty good” and that he will start a five-week throwing program before returning to the mound

He's not shut down for five weeks. In five weeks he'll be stretched out and ready to whip some arse!

That is completely different than the other report and definitely more optimistic.

ETA: And the 5 week throwing program before returning to the mound shows why it wasn't realistic to expect anything from him this season had he truly been shut down for 5 more weeks.

Also, it makes sense. Why the hell would you shut down a pitcher for five weeks after a successful bullpen and MRI? If it was that critical to rest him, you wouldn't have tested him in the first place.

I thought I read yesterday about putting him on a throwing program. As usual, Dellenger was wrong again.
