@DellengerAdv: Latz's MRI "looked good." He'll be shut down for five more week and then start throwing again. #LSU

Damn he's probably done for the season, at least as a significant contributor.

I hope he'll be 100% by May. It's always good to add some postseason pitching depth.

Dont Kidd yourselves. 95percent chance he is done and will red shirt. Reynolds was 100 percent in april last year and still redshirted. Latz was hurt with this same injury in the fall and it has reoccurred. They will be very conservative with him. therefore I say he is done

Well that's false, he was recovering from surgery.

I could be wrong but he had surgery after his freshman year and started rehabing. Sat out all last year but was throwing and at 100 percent around april but they gave him the redshirt

Need to be very conservative with a pitcher's throwing arm. But as meaningless as red shirts tend to be in football, they're even more so in baseball. Who is the last 5th year SR that contributed on the baseball team? If he can help this team at all this year--I mean getting 1 ground ball with 2 outs in a regional--without risking further injury, he should come back. The decision to bring him back this year should be based 100% on his injury and if there's a chance to prevent healing, and 0% on preserving a 5th year of eligibility.

Like I've said if he gets back this year he'll throw a few midweek innings and become a bullpen ace in postseason.

I agree the red shirt is meaningless and I wasn't implying to give him a red shirt to save eligibility because your point is dead on. My point is they will be very cautious with him and his future is more important than any game he may be able to salvage, in my opinion. I hope h can pitch this year. But as jn my previous post. I give a slim to no chance he sees the mound this year.

This caught me by surprise. I figured if the MRI was good he'd start light workouts and ramp up.

He'll throw. This staff does not expect him to stay beyond his third year. They'll get what they can out of him as long as he's healthy.

Me too. The additional five weeks of no throwing is what has me very pessimistic

Yeah if he's really "shut down" for 5 more weeks he likely won't contribute in any meaningful games. You're looking at two months before he would be ready to pitch in a game. By then you basically only have SEC games and postseason with limited rosters. We're already likely to have some pretty good pitchers left off the limited roster because of depth, they aren't likely to use a spot on an unknown at that point in the season.

If he's as good as advertised, he will be gone after three years anyway. If his arm is healthy and he's ready to go, no reason in holding him out of the postseason.

In that scenario the reason for holding him out wouldn't be to save the year, it would be to not remove someone from the roster who already has an established role.

Of course if we get hit with the injury bug or others become ineffective it's a different story.

Reynold's was not 100% by April, he was not even 100% for the summer
league he played in SW LA. I'm not even sure he is now.

People have a short memory, Joey Bourgeois was a heavy contibutor as a fifth year senior and Nick Pontiff contributed on the field and through great leadership in 09. A few years before that, while not the pitcher her was his first 2 years, Lane Mestapay was a solid pitcher.

5 weeks from now is exactly halfway through SEC play. So let's say two weeks from then he's ready to go... That gives him 3 SEC series, SECt, Regionals and Supers. If he's fully healthy, and he's as good as advertised, that's plenty of time for him to contribute. Having another elite arm in postseason play is never a bad thing.

ETA: I'd also imagine a couple of guys won't be as effective at that point in the season as they are now. That's just baseball.

The thing is it might take him more than 2 weeks to be ready to pitch in games. If it takes him 8 weeks to see the field he would still be limited in his first few starts
