And our fans ALWAYS have great expectations when a new Coach is hired. Unrealistic expectations.
With that said, Brian Kelly has a good track record and seems to be moving the program in the right direction. But he inherited a mess. IMO he is 3 or 4 recruiting classes away from competing for championships.
The OL, though hopefully improved, is still patchwork. We don’t have any quality depth on the OL. Same in defensive backfield.
I think the end of the season could be tough. That’s where lack of depth will take its toll. But, assuming Kelly continues to recruit well, he will turn it around in time.

The transfer portal has totally changed this narrative.

LSU lucky portal was available this year because the roster was in shambles
He was able to get some depth just to get the numbers back up

This. People are going to be surprised about how quickly teams are going to be able to turn themselves around due to the transfer portal. Not just LSU, but there will be a lot more unexpected turnarounds from teams who were bad the year before.

Garbage take.

I've been following LSU football since 2002 and we've had 1 coach who wasn't an incompetent arse dragon since then.

The disrespect this program is getting right now is understandable considering the last retard who was here. Some fans expectations are way too low IMO. There is just no way we lose more than 3 or 4 with this coaching staff.

O and Miles and aren't walking through those doors. This team is too fricking good at WR and DL to not win games there. This is on paper one of the best DLs in program history and I don't think that is a stretch. No one is saying we are winning a national championship but we also aren't going 6-6. No fricking way.

I hear you but how many Joe Burrow’s are there in the transfer portal? I feel like a lot of transfer kids are kids who got made due to lack of playing time and left their old program. Burrow is an exception. Hopefully Noah Cain is an exception.

I hope you are right. But if you sign 24 kids in a class and roughly 30% of them produce, that’s 8 kids per class…16 kids over 2 years. Are 16 kids going to have us competing for championships?

This will be interesting to see. You can restock talent, but can you build a team…that plays together, with chemistry, at a high level. I would say, someone with BK’s organizational talents is what you want in such a situation.

We shall see.

transfer portal changes everything. Look what Michigan state did, 2020 record was 2-5 and Mel Tucker sign around 20 players from the transfer portal after the season and in 2021 record 11-2.

with the transfer portal LSU can turn around the program will quick in a season or two or my opinion this year

You can rebuild a roster in 2 years now but I do agree that some expectations are pretty high for year #1.

I'll echo that the transfer portal changed the game. Also, now being able to maintain the 85 scholarship athletes year round is a huge advantage. We used to see 3-4 year necessary turn around times for teams. I honestly believe that's going to be a thing of the past with good recruiters now. If you want to talk about building a sustainable championship program with depth at every position, that's a different story. Probably will need 3-4 years for that but as far as fielding a really good 10+ win team, it could happen this year.

People were probably saying the same thing about Michigan State, last year. LSU has a far better coach, than Michigan State as well. I’m not saying they’ll go 12-0, 11-1, or 10-2 but 9-3 is definitely possible.
