re: It's hard, if not impossible, to defend Les Miles today...

if we do not win the SEC West in 2010, I think it's time to say, "thanks, Coach Miles, we appreciate everything you've done for us, but we need to move on."
I think getting in the SECCG and having a strong showing would be pretty solid also.

I've been one of, if not the, biggest supporter and defender of Les Miles throughout his tenure at LSU
Me too, hell I nearly killed myself to get an autogrpahed Miles Tiger Stadium pic two week ago for my boy's first birthday (obviously he won't apprecdiate it yet). I got nothing to defend him, there is no explaination.

FWIW, I don't think anyone (including myself) made Les Miles out to be a "great" coach. I have said before that Miles is a good coach, and has yet to show greatness (although I was certainly hoping for LSU's sake that he would indeed become a great coach at LSU)
After Saturday, I am willing to concede that Miles is not and will never be a "great coach."
Well, we can agree to disagree on that one.. you may not have said the actual words "Miles is a great coach" but you have repeatedly said that he's done a "fantastic" job at LSU, and that's pretty damn close. Furthermore, I can verify that MANY posters here have DEFINITELY referred to Miles as a GREAT coach on way too many occasions. Hell, after people get over what happened yesterday I bet a bunch of people will still feel that way.
That being said I respect the fact that you're willing to publicly concede that Les Miles BLEAUXS.

Silly comments actually because Les Miles has done a good job at LSU.
What is it going to take to get it through your stupid fricking head that Les coaches this team DOWN EVERY week.
Lets go through the games this year
Washington - Should have been a blow out. The D struggles can be excused because of the new DC, but our O blew for no reason. The team also looked bored an uninterested for stretches of the game
Vanderbilt - Same story as above except the D played better, there is still no excuse for the O sucking except the fact that Les is a terrible motivator and doesn't make the most of his talent.
ULL - Our O continued to struggle against a shitty opponent. The team played down to ULL
Miss. St. - Another game against inferior talent where we played down to their level. Neither unit looked really good.
WE WON ON A GOAL LINE STAND AGAINST MISS. ST.
Read that six times and ask who's fault it is. Its Les Miles fault the team came in unprepared, unfocused, and played down their opponent.
Georgia - We were one bad call away from losing this game. Once against the O looked like shite. Once against Les's team looked unprepared and let a inferior team hang around for 50 minutes.
Florida - Our O didn't look just bad the looked totally incompetent. They didn't play with fire or intensity and we had no game plan.
Auburn - The only good coaching job this season
Alabama - Once again we had an impotent O. The team at least looked like the wanted to win this
LA Tech - Pitiful. We were trailing at half to this team because Les Miles' team once again played down to inferior competition and looked lost and unprepared.
Ole Miss - I don't even need to say anything about this fiasco.
So we pay Les for one good coaching job and two mediocre coaching performances(UF and Bama) a year?
Or do you want to dispute my analysis.

I think Charlie weiss will be available real soon.

They weren't playing that bad until the injuries.

There's a lot more to being a college coach than meets the eye. Les Miles is a Top5 recruiter, Les Miles is a classy individual, Les Miles is a solid program manager. Obviously, his development of players, GameDay coaching, and gameplanning strategy is significantly lacking ... I certainly agree with you at this point in regards to that.
But, again, one cannot argue that Les Miles hasn't had success overall at LSU, because he certainly has. Unfortunately, the hope of his future potential successes at LSU is dwindling IMO, and that is frustrating, disappointing, and saddening as an LSU fan.

Our offensive coordinator in 2010??

I've been a pro-Miles guy since 2005, when, in my estimation at least, he did a fine job of leading the team through a season filled with land mines. And like him or not, it's almost 100% certain he'll be our HC through the 2010 season. That said, I agree that we'd better win the SEC West in 2010, or have one hell of a legitimate reason for not doing so, in order to justify Miles' continuation as HC. An 8-win 2010 season, with the players we have, would have to be bait cutting time.

Certainly there is a want for agreement?

. Les Miles is a Top5 recruiter
Which is why our OLine is severely deficient on talent. Which is why we had the QB gap after RP. Which is why we continually miss on top LBs. Which is why we extend offers to random 2 stars who get the LSU bump.

Les Miles is a classy individual
I didn't hire him to be classy. He's paid millions of dollars to win games. Period.

Les Miles is a solid program manager.
In what way. Hiring assistants? LOL

So most of what you want a HC to do he doesn't do. Got it.

I can certainly argue the casual chain between Les Miles and that success.

So ... what is your solution? And please make it feasible. Complaining and griping does no good unless it results in action to be taken and confidence restored.
I'm listening. Seriously, I am.

The solution isn't the question here. The question is here is stupid blind homerism and failure to ever look at what Miles actually does as a HC instead of just repeating empty mantras like a "A win is a win."
The question of how to handle the Miles situation is another topic entirely.

i think ole' verne lundquist said it all at the end of the game............'i'm stunned' ! wow, that was hard to watch. i agree; hope clm takes responsibility for that one. think we're fortunate to be 8-3 at this point. gotta' give some credit to om ! looks like a repeat of last year's 8-5.

Whose job is it to recruit one?
Les Miles, but isn't he a great recruiter.............................
And even assuming its a development issue, whose job is it to bring in a coach that can develop a QB?
Les Miles, but doesn't he always make great hires..................................................

The solution to the Les Miles problem isn't the question in this thread.
Now actually answer what has Les Miles done(He himself in terms of play calls, decisions made, hires, and recruiting) to not get his arse fired?
