Small ball. LSU is forced to play small ball because LSU doesn't have the crushers at bat. You know the guys who can step up to the plate, with bases loaded, and "crush the ball". Defensive play is lacking somewhat but IMO that will improve as the season progresses. It's the lack of heavy hitting that's got me concerned. But then it's early in the season.
But I'm not panicky. A lot of baseball left to play, and Mainieri has proven he can recover and field a winner. Let's see what happens.

Cabrera, Garza, C. Doughty, Hampton, and Beloso aren't talented? Not a lack of talent, if they don't make Omaha this year Paul needs to be fired.

The only good thing we have this year is pitching. Most runs have been late in games with LSU throwing guys who won’t throw by mid season.

This is a fact! Outside of possibly Henry and Hill there was no one we put on the field that looks like a future MLB’er!

It's not lack of talent. It is lack of coaching. He gets #1 class every year. The man can not coach.

I think pitching is in real good shape this year. The best it's been in years. I think the issue people have with Dunn is past history with pitchers. Specifically, the lack of development. It seems like all the arms either stay the same or get worse. I can really only think of one that made marked improvement year-to-year and that was Jared poche. Granted, I don't have a very strong memory so maybe yall can come up with a few more names.

I’m leaning that way too, but it could be a bit of both. I have a hard time believing Hal Hughes might still be the best option at shortstop in his junior year. Have we recruited no one or developed no one in that time that’s better than him?
And as far as the offense goes I think back to the box scores scuba was posting in the fall and the preseason. I don’t have a photographic memory but from my recollection the offensive results so far are not that much different than the results in those scrimmages. Not much hitting going on except from a select few. A lot of walks from the pitchers too. And that’s exactly what we’re seeing so far early in the season. I know you want to be playing your best ball at the end of the season but over the last two games we don’t even look like the best team on the field in any phase of the game. And talent-wise, playing a lot of freshmen or first time players, just from an eye test I would have thought we’d look better than Nicholls and EKU. But that really hasn’t been the case. Further to the actual results we didn’t look better than them at the plate, didn’t look better on the mound, and certainly didn’t look better in the field. Unacceptable.

Cabrera, Henry, Marceaux, Hill, Doughty, Travenski, and Hampton were all guys that were legitimate threats to not make it to campus. Talent is not the issue.

If there were plenty of talent on this team, then we wouldn’t be planting a lot of freshman. It is not like these freshmen are the Todd Walker. The same thing was said about the freshman on the team last year, who have since been replaced in the lineup this season by freshmen.

We haven’t even finished the second weekend of the year. Is it a disappointing start? Sure. But everyone abandoning ship needs to chill.

Baseball has softer minded athletes. Most come from affluent or pretty good upbringings and those are usually softer athletes in general they haven’t had to overcome much in life to date.
The last 2 seasons have had the tell tale signs of a poorly prepared team at the bat. It’s not hard to see how many kids predetermine that they’re swinging before the pitch. They get behind in counts frequently through poor pitch recognition, poor plate discipline, etc.
Just piss-poor plan and approaches altogether and it’s not hard to see.

It's nothing big, just little things. The guys seem a little soft, not battling pitchers up there and little discipline. Just st missing some fire, some heart, some discipline.
These are the kinds of things that can improve over the season though, it's way too early to panick.

34 walks and 8 hit batters in 6 games against below average players isn’t a good stat. And 2/3 weekend starters boast a 6+ ERA. That’s not supporting your statement

I'm not a new critic of CPM. I have been disgusted with him since 2012. That year,me and friend got to catch an LSU vs. Kentucky baseball game in Lexington that spring and we were both shocked at what we saw. To make the point a little clearer, my friend actually was a prior walk on member of an LSU baseball team long before CPM, so he was not some regular fan. Guys, it looked like a little league team out there. With the exception of a second baseman and some pitchers who went pro, that team struggled to hit the ball. Kentucky had numerous big guys who could hit and score runs. LSU got smoked!! Fast forward 8 years and it is still nearly the same problem. I have been off the Paul band wagon since that week end in Lexington !!!!! I cannot wait to see a REAL baseball coach back in Red Stick !
