It wasn't just lack of recruiting on defense

There was some talent that isn't currently on the team. I'm sure most teams lose a few players as well but can't help but wonder how LSU would have been on defense with R.Robinson and Valentine and LMAO.....I'm missing at least one also that I can't recall. But....that's also on coaches to try and evaluate character as well as talent.

Our Offensive recruiting is good, but we don't use the players properly.

The defense is the one thing we are known to do right, and we are depleted talent wise.

Recipe for disaster.

I'm actually not nearly as worried about DL because of Orgeron, especially with what we're expecting to land this year. I don't think we're stacked at DB, but adequate.

But, LB depth is atrocious. Assuming Beckwith goes in the draft, our starters next year will be Duke Riley and Donnie Alexander - and practically nobody behind them except people who haven't played or kids playing HS ball right now.

How do people feel about the year Beckwith has had? It's hard to tell if he's having a down year, or if he's just overwhelmed because he's playing a new scheme and the defense around him is weak.

The defense around him has minimum 6 future NFL players...

That's why the biggest recruiting job this staff has is Beckwith.

I see a kid like Divinity that can come in and play outside, early. And maybe Fowler is advanced enough to get some quality reps at Mike, but only late in games or against OOC. If he can play significantly as a freshman - I'll feel a little better, but as you suggest, this is by no means a reasonable expectation.

I don't know how we finish, but certainly we're going to take 2 or 3 more LBers.

I think he grades out high for the NFL. He's not the fastest guy, but he's fast enough at Mike. Linebackers just aren't a premium in the league, so they don't typically draw as many high draft picks (like RB and S). If he doesn't get a first day sheet, he may get the insurance policy and come back.

Beckwith is listed as the 2nd rated ILB and projected as a 2nd round pick. Deion Jones is rated as a 4th round OLB.

Make no mistake, part of our defensive problems of kate is directly attributed to a pathetic offense.

that is a part of recruiting. Evaluating the character of the kid and making the offer based on talent and character. If you evaluate based on talent, then you have issues. If you evaluate both, maybe you don't have to kick as many off.

no secret valentine and robinson had grade issues during their recruitment. we took a risk and that risk failed.

I really thought he was going to be an amazing linebacker. Like one we never forget. Instead he's playing D-Il l. Bad break.

Before long, T. Valentine will become the GOAT DL at LSU.
Without ever playing a down...

we got 4 linebackers in the last 3 classes. and 1 of them isn't on the team anymore.

Thats an issue.

There is a common thread between Bain, LMAO and Valentine: There all guys we took last minute because we needed bodies in a class. In all likely hood had we taken the time to scout them we would have seen the red flags other teams saw.

I think miles has been very good at LSU...most success of any LSU coach ever. I also think its time for a change and I believe that will happen. I just feel sorry for the people like you that couldn't enjoy the success of the team over the last 10 years due to your dislike of Miles. LSU is a top 5 program over the last 10 years under Miles. Very few get that.

I have no idea whether he is any good or not. I know he had a big body that we need in there right now.
