This will undoubtedly be a 55-member pep band.

To the others saying we will/won't bring the full band to a game, there's ALWAYS one full band away trip. Since this is the first year in a while that Alabama is away and we have no kickoff neutral-site game, Alabama may actually be that full-band trip.

it is embarrassing to see Bama bring their full band to LSU every other year and we send a pep band to Tuscaloosa. Bama also sends its full band to Knoxville those same years. But at least this year we will have our full band at Bama

You mean Washington in 09.

Yeah that's what I meant

That was my senior year and I remember simply meeting them at the hotel and hopping on the bus to go to the game with the band that day. I have family up there, and wanted to travel "on my own dollar" (as Roy put it) so I could visit with them.

Only SEC road trips I would allow hotel stays would be eastern division teams. Playing a western division team? Bus there and back.

It doesn't work that way...and it doesn't matter what time the game is.

Let's just say there is a game at Alabama at 2:30. You are saying the band should all gather up to leave campus at around 5:00 am....bus over to Tuscaloosa, play the game, and then leave right after the game and come back?

Besides being an idiotic idea, this would never happen mainly due to rules that bus drivers have about hours worked in a day. No bus driver would be allowed to make that trip twice in the same day.

And as someone pointed out earlier, hotels are a relatively minor expense in all of this. Even if you throw that out, expenses are still high just with the purchase of the tickets and the bus rental. Game tickets are $25K+ and the buses...the band needs 8-10 buses to make a trip and those run from $3-4K each...so that is another $25K or so. And whether you like it or not, you still have to feed the slaves...errr band members. Even just one day of meal money runs you about $20K. Do the math. Over 400 people at $50 per day. So by cutting out the hotel room and eliminating another day of meals, you are still paying, bare bones, about $80K for the trip, and that is being conservative.

After the events of last week, my mind went dyslexic on me.

I read the title as "GLBT" and thought - What does THAT have to do with LSU football?

Whew!

Bama's full band travels to at least 2 road games/season. Auburn also always brings their full band to Baton Rouge. If the other poster is correct in that the full band isn't going to Tuscalooser, then I wonder which away game they will attend. I imagine that it will be Ole Miss, since I don't recall us ever taking the full band to Starkvegas or Columbia.

they would bring 2 drivers per bus, or have another driver meet them there. Happens all the time on long bus trips, the busing company would arrange for you to go whenever you want to.

The band did make the trip to Bama and back in one day in 2009. All of the games that year except Georgia were scheduled to be 1 day trips because of budget issues, but game times made that impossible for all the games except Bama. Also, the full band was supposed to go to auburn but that ended up only being a pep band because of the Washington trip.

The full band trip is Miss State this year. Syracuse will be ~50.

Did they explain why? As opposed to Alabama?

At least we'll have representation.

Hard to believe the full band is going to MSU instead of Bama - there must have been pressure to not take up a big chunk of those valuable 1200 lower level seats in Tuscaloosa. Are we the only SEC school that doesn't send the full band to Bama? It is so embarrassing that these CBS night "games of the century" have the full Bama band in Baton Rouge and a little pep LSU band in Tuscaloosa

I imagine you're right about the reason. I went to the "game of the century" in 2011 and we couldn't even hear the LSU band until the end of the game when the Bama fans left.

Also, I've noticed that our band doesn't usually try to play over the opposing band whether at home or on the road. However, more often than not, other bands don't return the courtesy. Auburn's band was drowning ours out their last visit to Tiger Stadium.
