I think this is one area of concern that gets overlooked. Beside the passing game woes this has to up there also.

Yes. Show Peveto the door and do not hire him a 3rd time

This year? Probably not.

Next year? Probably not since Miles loves Bradley.

I'm more concerned about our receivers and their missing hands... kickoff coverage will get fixed and Keenh will get out of whatever funk he's in.

I just want the receivers to find their hands, no reason they drop some of the passes they did.

It's full of players that don't get reps, so it should improve consistently through the year. How fast/much is the question.

If it does not, you have a coaching problem.

This game, dealing with P Cooper, is that proverbial "line in the sand". Should have improved enough by now.

Our special team play, especially kick coverage, has been troubling since last year. Unless the coverage improves, it will cost us dearly in key upcoming games. Any LSU fan that has been watching our special teams should be concerned.

Overlooked? It might be the most frequent thread lately.

We have to figure out a way to get the opposing team to get penalized on the PAT. That way we can get a touchback. Having two kickers that can put it on the 1yd line every time is great, unless you have a coverage team that consistently escorts the return man to the 30-35yd line.

Punting/punt coverage looked better, although we didn't punt very often against EMU. It would be ludicrous to suggest - with our athletes - that coverage teams cannot improve. Our not being able to either kick the ball deep into the end zone OR cover KOR very well is discouraging. I think we're stuck with kicking the ball off to the 2 to 5 yard line - we're just going to have to cover it better.

I'm even a little more comfortable with placekicking.

Our return game has some explosiveness. I'm okay with the return game so far.

don't we have someone who can kickoff into the endzone 75 % of the time? that would go a long way to fixing our return coverage woes.

from what I've seen we're kicking line drives down inside the 5. no enough time for the cover team. having said that, of course the coverage could stand improvement.

we need that 1 guy on special teams who shines. all good cover teams have that one guy.

We are 124 in the country in punt return defense.
We are 104 in the country in net punting.

Find someone who can kick it in the end zone consistently. Take chance completely out of the equation.

How long does Tomsula have as HC in San Francisco? He has both Mcgaughey and Henry on staff - if he gets the quick hook, do we try to grab those guys before they take other NFL jobs?

Or is Miles too stubborn to make a change in those areas that are desperately in need of a change?

A quick remedy would be to be able to kick the damn ball into the end zone for a touchback.

I thought we had a guy who could kick it through the end zone? I really hope our strategy as a coaching staff isn't to kick it high and allow returns...if so they need to scrap that strategy its not working

The one time we had to have a guy hold the ball on KO, Domingue put it 7 yards deep in the end zone. That tells me that since we would be short a coverage guy, we decided to just put it in end zone and not take a chance of a busted lane. Which means we CAN put it into the end zone, we just choose not to.

Lets see, the special teams has gotten steadily worse since the beginning of last season. What change was made that would cause such a drastic drop off in performance?

It's only a matter of time before special teams costs us a game. Kick return and punt return units are horrible. Lanes all over the field. I'm not sure I've ever seen Keehn hit a spiraled punt. I knew guys in high school who could do this 75% of the time.

i hope so...idk why its hard for us to get down the field...past teams would beat the ball carrier to the 20 every time....we will get some returned on us this year if this continues

And if there is no improvement in those areas we could be fricked in a lot of games
