That fake punt by them really surprised us...enough said.

Well, by that line of thinking, our fake field goal against South Carolina last year made Steve Spurrier look positively retarded.

Using ghe outcome of a single play of a single game as a measure of a man's intellect is not remotely reasonable.

hell, we did a fake field goal against florida last year too. i guess Urban Meyer is a retard as well.

To answer the topic question, he seems pretty smart to me so I give him the credit. For anyone who doesn't think he is that smart, yes he is.

I got a kick out of " mediocre S & C = 7-5 or
8-4".

DP, your statement is a sweeping and biased generalization, especially considering that Mallory, in particular, has worked at several BCS schools prior to LSU. To say that no BCS schools are even considering hiring him can't be backed up as too many things happen behind the scenes that none of us know.

When you criticize Miles' intelligence for promoting Mallory, bear in mind that Bo Pelini also recommended Mallory to be promoted to DC, so Mallory was clearly doing something right, and was not simply Miles' drinking buddy.

The best that you can argue is that Mallory and Peveto are not publicly being named as serious candidates for coordinator or head coaching positions in BCS schools-- and that is only as far as we know. Most people agree that the defense underperformed this past year. So maybe no elite BCS schools would consider them as coordinators or better, but would still take them as position coaches as they were at LSU the year before. Neither you nor I know one way or the other.

So, if you are Mallory, do you want to be a DB coach again at an elite BCS school, or do you take the coordinator position at New Mexico, thinking you learned a lot (arguably the hard way) this year, but feel confident you will do better this time around? Personally, I would think taking a position coach job next would be a greater demotion, and I would want to prove that I am capable of being a good D coordinator. Is it a move up-- no, but it is hardly a terrible fall from grace.

If you are Peveto, who has a greater amount of small school experience, which would you choose-- a lesser position at a bigger school or being head coach at a smaller school? If it were me, I would choose the head coach gig? In my opinion, it is a move up.

I haven't seen definitive word on Earl Lane-- just that he might go to FIU as line coach, which would be a small to moderate step back. But we know very little about him, and he may well just prefer to go back to Florida regardless. Who knows?

They were on our side of mid field (the 33 I think). A punt would have been pretty useless (a touchback gains 13 yards). It seemed like 90,000 people knew the fake was coming. The fakes against SC and UF were good calls because they were unexpected. A moron should have known to look for a fake in the Ole Piss situation. To say he was surprised by that call in that situation is really unacceptable. Just my thoughts.
