It's like all the saban worshipers forget that when he was here we were a run first team, even with a lot of WR talent. If JJ doesn't take 32 sacks last year he has pretty similar numbers to McElroy who was apparently good enough to win a NC

The difference is and will always be the running game.

All of JJ friends and relatives cannot change the fact of what he is. You are what you are. He is no SEC QB.

we were a couple plays from winning the West last year (bad INT call, bad clock management).

And JJ is better this year, so yes.

The patch on his jersey disagrees

Flynn needed a lot of time and was a 5th year Sr to come into championship form (when healthy).

We actually don't know this. He might have been in "championship form" earlier, but we had an even better starter in Jamarcus Russell, so we didn't need to rely on Flynn until his senior year.

Can JJ get there this year?

If your question were about the offense as a whole, I would not be confident, because line play, fumble problems with the RBs and play calling would all be issues of concern. But since your question is solely limited to Jefferson, I think the answer is yes, he could get there this year. Though he made a couple of mistakes against North Carolina, he did play pretty well overall. If we had all the other components working right, he could be good enough not to keep an otherwise championship-caliber team from winning the championship.

Actually he IS a 2nd year starting SEC QB with a winning record (5-3) in SEC games started. Soooo, either you have some mental problem or you rather not face facts or you manipulate them to fit your agenda.

yes, but the defense and running game need to kick arse.
It would take so much pressure off of him and give him room to develop if this happens. I think if that can happen, even only for a few games, it would make a huge difference in the outcome of the season.

I don't think JJ will be a game changer. I think his skills are good enough though with a very good running game and a good defense to challenge for the SEC. He isn't going to lift the team by himself though, isn't that kind of player.

Think about this (yes, coulda/woulda/shoulda). Last year, we had a legitimate shot at beating Bama. The clock management at the end of the Ole Miss game was not JJ's fault (although other parts of that game were). We walk away with both of those wins and we win the SECW.

I think this team is good enough to win the SECW ... this year ... with JJ. Would I wager money on it? Probably not.

Can this season go south? I would say that we are at a crossroads.

2008-09 is similar to 1996-97. Are we about to have 1998-99 ... or is this the beginning of the next run? I'm actually not sure.

Jefferson ignored open receivers on multiple occasions on Saturday night, while trying to force the ball into receivers that took hits immediately as the ball arrived. The strength of LSU’s receiving corp. is its ability to make things happen after the catch but unless the quarterback gets them the ball in space, this talent is wasted

The balls did arrive barely in time on several occasions, but we'll see how this plays out

I was at the game in Atlanta and the only time I saw JJ look good was on the long touchdown pass to Randle. Unfortunately, JJ hasn't improved enough to contend for the championship.

2 things needed
amazing shutdown defense
spectacular special teams

we got the ST with peterson.
unfortunately we need the 2000 baltimore ravens defense to compensate for our anemic qb play.....

Do you even realize how close we were to Atlanta last year?

And JJ looks alot better than last year.

If we get our fumbles under control, and stop reverting to soft zones when we have the lead. . .we can be in the SECCG in December.

But we will get there for the same reasons we got there with Mauck and Flynn. Because of the running game, the defense, and limiting our turnovers.

JJ is most assuredly good enough to play for and win the SECCG. He was last year. . .and our running game sucked.

Were you at the Game? Many times I saw receivers open and JJ looked at his primary receiver. Also, he would run with the ball instead of hanging in the pocket.

The thing JJ needs to do to be on the same level is run the option and throw the bubble screen effectively. So far, he has not been able to do so. I hope by mid season we can say that he has learned to do so effectively. In the Crowton offense, these 2 plays are make or break for the offense.
