Is it time to finally give up on Russell Shepard being a big time player?

Some already have.. but I've always been on Team Shepard. I'd toss it up to Jefferson or Lee never being able to hit him in stride or between the numbers. It seemed like he'd always have to reach way over his head for the ball.

But he's had some bad drops on well thrown balls 2 game in and it seems like same old Shep. I hope I'm wrong.

I still want to see him used more out of the backfield, but with our stable of backs it's hard to get him touches there.

Time to admit he is mostly a bust. He is a great kid, but there are bigger faster better players.

The good news is that Mett seems to like to spread it around

He'll just have to make the most out of his opportunities when he is thrown the ball

Yes. I've always waved the Shepard flag and think he has brought value to LSU outside of his play on the field.

But, I don't think he will ever be a "big-time" player." Just too hard to try and convert him to a receiver, when he is a QB/RB by nature.

I still hold out hope that he can make some timely big-plays and help us win some big games. And, I still think he can do that.

Unfortunately yes. I was thinking tonight about what it's like to be in his shoes right now. Could have gone anywhere coming out of high school and now he probably won't even play in the NFL. He is a great representative for lsu, but I would imagine it's hard not to get down on yourself.

I always loved shep but he's not gonna be a top playmaker for us. He leadership can still be valuable though.

I've hyped and kept up hope for him through everything. Now even I admit, he's not one of our top WR's.

That being said, not many of our WRs looked amazing tonight.

Let's just see how it turns out and support him because he's a Tiger.

He was a great high school player from Texas. And everybody knows Texas has great hs players. That's why the longhorns are so great.

I don't think anyone in this thread is suggesting they will not support him.

He isn't a bust. He has contributed every year. He hasn't lived up to expectations but he isn't a bust.

SOmething tells me if he hand went to Texas he would be a starting running QB like vince young. We mis-used him at LSU and for that I feel bad.

I decided to focus on him during a kickoff in the 3rd quarter. He stays back in case the returner breaks free.

Well, the guy DID break free and Sheperd is the only one left to tackle him. He proceeds to trip over his feet and fall on the ground. Luckily 46 comes out of nowhere to make the tackle.
