Our recruiting has gone berserk with him and steele being added. If it is true he is a top positional coach on top of his recruiting......is he the best hire Of Miles tenure? There are some big hires to consider here. Chavis, Cam, Frank, Coop then Raymond. Even crowton and pelini were big at the time.

It's been good so far, but lets let him coach a season first.
I'm also still a little worried about him getting us in trouble in some way with recruiting.

IMO D-Line has more questions that need to be answered than the QB position

If O can get the line back to what we're accustomed the W/L record will reflect it

His defensive line hasn't played a down yet.
Will let you know later in the season.

I have to give him the benefit of the doubt coaching wise. Its not like he is new to coaching defensive lines. He has a great resume for that. The recruiting has been the best i have seen honestly. We have top recruits that cant wait to come see lsu right now from other states

One of the most overrated defensive coordinators in college football. I still can't get over how many points that '07 defense allowed down the back stretch of the season.

Plus, there was the ultimate debacle, otherwise known as the 2012 B10 championship game.

Still think about that loss to Arky at home in triple OT. All he had to do was call a blitz one time when Arkansas had the ball last on 4th down. The dude doesn't believe in blitzing for some damn reason. Arky QB had all day in the pocket until he found a RB out of the backfield to keep the drive alive. Just stupid! And they were terrible at containing McFadden the whole game.

Coach O has already out recruited Chavis. When your DC is an LB guru yet when he leaves for another school and we have zero LBs what does that say about chvis and recruiting

Frank is probably the best hire though it was only a matter of time before he came to LSU, no matter who would've been HC.

No one is saying they were struggling, but up front something was missing. Miles has admitted that in that they wanted to improve the pass rush and get more turnovers. So yes, there was room for improvement up front. Also, Chavis wasn't lending a huge hand in recruiting. So, he added two guys who love to recruit and is attempting to improve specific areas of the defense.

Furthermore, an Alabama player said Steele was really good at teaching so that freshman LBs could play year 1. That might come in handy next year. He mentioned Hightower as the freshman player that he really did well with.

Clearly need to see what happens this year and possibly next before declaring O the best hire. However he is the guy I have wanted for a long time and am more excited about him than any hire Miles ever made. He is a perfect fit at LSU.

On paper yes. Time will tell. He should be a HC somewhere or at least a DC. For him to be a DL coach here is pretty amazing. I thought Cam was a great hire too. We'll see what he can do for our dline. I think he's a better hire than Cam because when you look at it, it's almost like O took a demotion to come coach here. As I said, I'm sure he had plenty of interest for a higher job like DC/HC somewhere.
