I still find in more entertaining than LSU basketball. Especially with all the fouls being called more.

IMO the bat change has actually increased the level of pure baseball talent. I don't think it rewards pitchers mistakes, I think it penalizes hitters mistakes. can of corn pop flies don't carry 30 feet over the fence anymore. manufacturing runs in a 2-2 game is just as exciting to me as batting practice home runs

You must not be a baseball fan. Pitchers duels are fascinating if you know what you're watching.

No, preferred Gorilla Ball but still love the game. Watched almost every game last year and then went to Omaha!!! Plan to try again this year. I am looking forward to a new ball next year.

You're right, I'm not a baseball fan but I've watched (and played) plenty of baseball over the years. I know exactly what I'm seeing and understand all the supposed subtleties and nuances of the batter/pitcher matchups.

In my view, however, it's way overblown (as are most other aspects of baseball). It has to be this way because baseball fans need a reason why they watch the games. Otherwise, they'd have to admit that baseball is too slow, too long, too unathletic, and too inactive.

You see much, much more strategy, subtlety, and nuance in every play in a football game and every trip down the floor in basketball.

You go watch all the pitcher's duels you want and get fascinated - I'll go take a nap. Wake me when something happens.

It's not unwatchable.
The old bats, games could drag on forever especially in a sport where pitching is at a premium.

I would love to see a little more offense but the CWS changes strategy because that park is too big especially with wind blowing in.

Part of the reason the old CWS stadium was so offensive oriented was because the stadium sat on a hill with wind gusting out particularly in the summer. Dimensions were just as large as new stadium.

There's just no offense in the biggest covered event college baseball has and that's your marketing tool. Even the ESPN announcers can't be happy with what they've done with the excitement the CWS used to provide in a down viewing period for sports. When ESPN decides to increase it's coverage of regionals and super regionals they are helping the sport. ESPN loved Indiana jacking the ball out of the FSU super regional last year. It's hard for ESPN to sell a product that is played one way for the first two weeks of postseason and then turns into glorified fastpitch softball for the CWS.

No question the NCAA hurt a great product. Now they're in reconstruction mode.

Still, a day at the ballpark is something to look forward too.

If they don't try and fix it, the regionals will be played in packed houses at on campus stadiums and the CWS will be played in front of 10,000 fans.

If that's the way the new Rosenblatt plays, it's time to move it elsewhere

Did you enjoy the LSU 9-6 football win over Alabama in 2011? I sure as hell did.

I'll probably watch a good bit more next season if the new balls work.

The CWS was the worse for me. Did not enjoy that at all. The good thing is there will be some long ball excitement because of the dimensions at some of the SEC ball parks, but not necessarily at the Box.
I really don't understand why they can't change to the flat seams ball this season.

Use wooden bats. Don't mess with the ball. Keep the game as if it were the Major Leagues. Tinkering with the bats every couple of years gives some teams an advantage of others. I think something like 3 HR's were hit last year in Omaha by the entire 8 team field. That's not baseball.

Keep it simple and then leave it as is.

Actually the MLB uses flat seems, and a tighter wound core than college.
I never knew there was a difference in the balls until last year when changes started to be discussed.
I really cant understand why the NCAA ever adopted this ball in the first place. Was it in response to super bats?

Of course I did. That's because every football play has 22 guys running around doing different stuff.

It's more exciting to watch, as compared to a baseball pitcher standing in the exact same spot throwing a ball to the exact same guy, where the vast majority of the time, the ball isn't put into play.

Ridiculous question.... answer is no. The bats are more like wood now, but the ball doesnt carry because of the seems. And the pitchers have so much movement on the high seem ball. It gives them the advantage. This will change next year. LSU hits the ball hard, but they hit it right to the defense this weekend and in the cws, dont over react.
