Hard to believe a coach could go from No. 2 in the country (with the nation's No. 1 recruiting class for 2016) to the brink of being unemployed in a matter of four weeks, but Miles did. It's also yet another reminder that the trajectory of this league changed forever when the late Mal Moore lured Saban back into the college game in 2007.

quote:

Really, though, who in the SEC has beaten Saban with any consistency? In his last 40 games against SEC competition, he's 35-5. And as one veteran coach in the SEC told me last week, if Saban coaches another 40 games in the SEC, he'll probably be 35-5 again.

Since 2008 Saban has lost 12 games:

2 each to Miles, Meyer and Freeze and one each to Stoops, Spurrier, Sumlin.

Note 4 of those 6 coaches has won a national championship.

Please let Saban and Alabama not be the reason why we mistreat the most successful coach in our school's history. And please ... Charlie McClendon won one SEC title while Miles has won 2 and also a National Championship. Miles if the GOAT football coach at LSU. He has brought honor to our school in more ways than one.

While the Alabama stuff sucks, people are more upset that it's not only the Alabama problem, but now it's the arkansas/Ole miss problem as well. LSU doesn't pass the eye test as a dominant team anymore.

Fair points.

Although I think most people will say their primary displeasure originated from the two games following that one.

None of that is interesting. It's tiring now.

It's when teams like Ole Miss and Arkansas beat us. Of course Bama is not the sole reason.

This is not what should be saving him after 2016. Mediocrity should not be defended.

I'm a Miles supporter.

But the game plan against Alabama was embarrassing. The halftime adjustments were more embarrassing.

The nation was watching and we looked like clowns. Arky game proved the naysayers right.

How many years/times did Miles have to beat Saban? Meyer? Freeze? Lol. Miles probably doubled the attempts.

It'd be nice to again be one of the 5 teams to beat Alabama in the future.

So I'm guessing we are suppose to just sit on our hands and play second fiddle to Bama until Saban retires... Im sorry but I think there are other coaches who could come in and do better than CLM.

Ole Miss and Arkansas

We lose to Arkansas because we are beaten and morally dejected after the Alabama loss while Arkansas is rested with two weeks to prepare and sky high for the game.

The Ole Miss this year was the next week after Arkansas and all the negativity just spilled over. This is simply bad scheduling.

McClendon didn't have half the talent Miles has to work with. LSU would have at least 3 National Championships since 2005 with an elite coach.

This. It's not about Alabama. The objective should be to show continuous improvement during the season and ongoing player development year over year. But that is rare on Miles' teams.

The sideline confusion, clock management issues, player mental discipline, general brain farts and lack of crisp execution have been all too common during Miles' tenure. He seems like a great, personable guy. He's very likable. He (and staff) are being paid for consistent top tier coaching performance and results. We generally are not getting either.

I've been a supporter since day 1. Do you really think that Saban is the only reason for the hot seat? Surely not.

The team McClendon took over in his first year after Dietzel was plenty talented.

Then McClendon's teams from 1969 to about 1972 or 1973 were very talented, compared to the teams of that era. Especially 1969 and 1970.

McClendon had quite a few really talented teams.
