Mascona wrote on "gridiron now" which is a site I'm not familiar with but anyway, to paraphrase, we had Herman hired (verbally) but that Herman wanted to hear what UT had in mind (via a phone conversation with hermans agent late Friday night) and it pissed alleva off. Joe went on to say frick y'all, I'll pull my offer and give it to someone who truly wants to work here. That of course being ed o. That said, if true, Joe manned up in that sense

Manned up? He acted like an emotional 15yr old girl.

What's the rush? Alleva panicked, per usual. LSU gets scraps once again.

I'd rather him stay a nutless weiner and hire a good football coach.

In other words, once Alleva found out Texas might want to play ball, Alleva shite his pants and went running home.

You lose a lot of leverage when you fail to beat fricking Memphis.

If true (I doubt it is), I see that more as Alleva's letting his pride get in the way of a proper negotiation. Not something admirable.

Phew! We might've lost Coach O had we wanted another 24 hours.

Go read the article. I kept it short. Alleva was being played and from what I read, I thought he handled it well. I just got that feeling from having read the article in its entirety. See what u guys think

I did read it. Alleva got his feelings hurt and is too much of a pussy to try to take on Texas. Bottom line.

It's business. He took it personal. Bad job.

I disagree tigerdew. But that's ok. Sounds like alleva thought your word is your bond. I agree with that much. Difficult deal either way I guess

There are some on here that will never get it that Herman was just playing LSU. I wanted Herman over Orgeron but I saw this playing out from my living room.

Herman's agent reached out to TX at least three times unsolicited just this week afraid they were going to miss out on the timing.

In the long run I believe that Herman was heartbreak either way. If he failed we were in deep financial do do. If he succeeded he was going to bid out to the highest bidder or to his lifetime dream job.

Funnier part here is that now Moscona is a reliable source!

Sounds like Alleva did not want to get in a bidding war when he knew Herm was going to Texas all along

Python, I'm skeptical with coach o but was alleva supposed to just chunk more millions at Herman until he said stop? Doesn't make sense either right?

Alleva is the dumbest human being on the planet if he thought a handshake would stand in a coaching search.

I did read he article, how was he getting played? If LSU had a number they weren't going to pay than just say "here is our best offer" when Herman asks for more. It is not like LSU is missing out on other choices by continuing to negotiate with Herman.

If Alleva didn't anticipate and plan for Herman possibly saying he wanted to hear from Texas he is an idiot. Pulling the offer because Herman wanted to hear from Texas now that job was open seems emotional, the only side to lose by doing that is LSU.
