He is our only dual threat option currently, let’s use him with Nuss like Perrilloux & Flynn

Justin McMillan committed to LSU knowing there was almost no chance he would ever be the starter, got a few years of practice and finished up with a couple of solid seasons at Tulane.

You never know what's going to happen to kids when they get on campus and have to start competing for the first time. Many of these have just been better their entire lives.

I have no idea what his style is but having “above average mobility as a runner” doesn’t make you a dual threat or running QB.

Agreed, but the original reply the poster dropped the classic "color of his skin" to tell the others they were wrong in their assessment.

Your response to that is a good response. You aren't trying to imply someone is racist.

Dude, I remember the recruitment of DJ Ughalelei (sp) and eventually went to Clemson. Kid had all the intangibles and just never made the turn.

Don't assume just because a kid is the #1 QB in the country they come in and read defenses, hit WRs in stride, and manage the clock on day 1.

Let’s hope Nuss balls out so hard he is a first round pick in the 2025 draft.

Then Collins gets to compete with everyone and has an advantage of 2 years experience.

If he loses THAT competition, then he should transfer, but not before.

And?

And Collins isnt necessarily 1 play away from being the starter next year if he loses out to him, since he would be 3rd string, not 2nd at that point? Thought that was simple to follow

The system is now setup to bounce around every year. If I'm Ricky, I'm watching how this year goes. But if it looks shaky, I'd bounce sooner than later.

Sucks but that's what's in effect nowadays.

Imagine being a talented kid with an opportunity to compete and if it doesn’t work can go elsewhere. Welcome to today.

If I am Ricky Collins I am saying "good". This is where a man's will is tested and a lot of self-breakthrough can come out of it. I have learned to not pre-judge on these QB's. I remember wanting Brennan to come in for Burrow and Nuss to come in for Daniels. Lesson to be learn from a fans standpoint is exercise patience. We now have 2 case studies to draw from and both were Heismans. Whether Ricky knows it or not he is in the best place to learn and grow.

Just because they are rated higher, doesn't mean they're better. I think back to Major Applewhite at Texas. He was a very marginal recruit and he was better than the #1 QB recruit that came 1 year after him, Chris Simms.

Reality is actually the opposite. Nobody stays to compete.

That is the reality. But if he wants to be a major QB on this level, you have to compete with Swann. Swann is a JR. He'll only be here 1-2 years.

Based on tRant's track record of QB evals, I'm convinced that Collins is the best of the entire group.

He was never going to see the field at LSU. He was depth.

The future is bright for Ricky Collins and he’s a blessed young man to be in the position he is in.
He’s got a head coach that doesn’t play favorites, and will allow for equal opportunity in the competition for the starting roll.
He also got a year of being in the same room with a heisman winning QB, and will have (at the least) 2 years with a very good QB coach.
