The OP is completely right though. Les is a good recruiter but his recruiting management is pathetic. In 2012, we signed 1 DL player. ONE, and then people wonder why we had depth issues.

LBer they recruited poorly with minimal numbers than in one year recruited 5 LBers.

In 2010, we recruited Muncie and Welter as our only true LBers.

In 2011, they recruited one, Trovon Randle who bailed after less than a year.

In 2012, they tried to correct for it and overcorrected with 6 LBers.

In 2013, they got 3 in Beckwith, Riley and Jones, and then turned around and put Jones at FB.

In 2014, they took two of which their "stud" played almost nothing and left after a year and the other has yet to see real time in any game.

In 2015, what do they do? No LBers.

THat is horrid recruiting strategy and exactly why Bama is so far ahead. It has little to do with the amount of talent they bring in, and moreso to do with the depth they bring it each year.

This is why the OP is completely right.

Exactly. It just seems like LSU, under Miles, has never had a dominant OL, just serviceable at best

Because you dared to question the decision-making capabilities of his god, Les Miles!

Unlike the other 4 OL, the center is having to do basically a boomerang action to block after snapping. When you are taller, as others have stated, your center of gravity is much higher and to get back to a position where you are at a strength is more difficult and takes longer. That means any NT worth his salt is going to be at a huge advantage, and it was seen in the Bama game. You saw it a bit in the UF game, but because UF doesn't have the LBers that Bama does it gets overlooked.

Kevin Mawae touched on this today and said during the Bama game we were relying on Pocic to handle the NT by himself without any help from the guards. He didn't understand why we didn't have a guard at least chip the NT on his way to the 2nd level

It boils down to this: If we are going to scheme the way we do against Bama, we have to consistently recruit & develop an offensive line full of future 1st or 2nd rnd draft picks. Period.
The same goes for defense. Our front 7 has to be as good as their offensive line.
What's telling is that our recruiting in those areas fell off the map for a stretch. I think we are getting "well" now but our o-line is probably 2 years away & our dline might be 3.

That's a relatively spot on description of the problem. These morons (soulja) that can't or wont accept it are the same bunch of babies that have a "want" to beat Bama but like Miles so much that they accept his mediocrity. Les is a great man no doubt. But his coaching success at LSU is a by product of (usually) having better talent than being a superior coach than the opposition.

Maybe you lash out when you can't understand or see the truth. Pocic is out of position. Vadal is out of position. Hawkins is out of position. Pocic can paly any where, but we need guys at their best positions, and our guys are not.

Having superior talent is part of being a superior coach.

could have had dillon day but i believe something behind the scenes ruined that opportunity. other people around here know more than i do on that aspect. regardles of his actions in the game last year, dude was a hell of a player and would have been a solid 3-4 year starter at center over elliot porter and whatever else we had.

it's hard to do anything about the quality of the players you recruit. Like everyone else you recruit the best players you can get to come to your school.

but it seems year after year, with an exception here an there, that we way under recruit OL's, DL's, and LB's. Just in sheer quantity of numbers. We should never have a recruiting class with less than 4 OL's in it for example. 5 should be an average year. OL's are hard to predict who will develop into a great one and who won't. Just recruit a lot of them and let it shake out a couple years later.

as far as Pocic at center, Seems Clapp and Pocic should swap positions. Clapp is built more like a prototypical center. Really Pocic should be at RT and Alexander should be at guard with Clapp at center

Pocic performed better at left guard than at center last year. This year, he has done a good job at center before this last game, but he does seem to be out of postion.

Kelley from bama had Beckwith on skates the entire night to the point on one play he drove him 30 yards down the field.
