I think those who pulled the trigger were afraid of the possibility LSU could get on a win streak making it difficult to fire Miles.

The season was already in flames. This is on the AD who should have done this at the end of last year.

This puts LSU first in line for a HC going into the end of the season.

Shut up with that we aren't competitive with Bama idiocy. Just shut up. One opponent retard we have several others. Frick off

If we went on a win streak, why fire our coach? This sounds like Ole Joe finally got his chance to do what he's been wanting to for a while now.

From an external (media mostly) that would've been the more preferable route.
Your "money management" is criticized, but they'll forget all about that when TS is rocking and rolling again.

But, internally the LSU program is becoming stale, and almost toxic at this point. You've got to revive TS and fan excitement before the program loses all luster.

Recruits get used to the idea of playing for a school rather than a coach. The ones that are still on board when we name a "permanent" coach are ALL LSU. And plenty more will sign up when someone is named.

I hate it for Miles, and it certainly is something that is rarely done, but it was the best thing in our situation.

If you don't think they'll play hard for O just look at the D-Line. 19 sacks in Brick's last year, 34 in O's first year, 14 in 4 games puts us 3 ahead of this point last year, and on track for 45!

Is that really a choice? Les hired a longtime friend for the coordinator position which he intended to have significant influence. When Les was a position coach, what side of the ball did he coach? If Les fires Cam, maybe he loses a friend and everyone hears how much Les influenced his decisions. If what you are saying is true, that's a lose/lose scenario and an easy choice for Les.

Right now Bama would be at least a 14 point favorite over us and we're at home. The gap has widened way too much.

I think it was bad idea to get rid of Miles four games into a season after eleven years. You let him finish out the season, and if we get trounced then you do it as soon as the final game ends. I think the fact that the "loss" was so controversial and that you can see the improvements in our passing game also weigh into it.

The players love Les, and they were going to keep playing hard for him no matter what.

I think that's a very valid opinion, but I think you also have to consider that some players might have more of a sense of freedom and more energy. Coach Orgeron has talked about getting the energy up in multiple ways, and I think that will be good for the program. Coach O has experience with this type of situation, and I think he is a good man to lead during this transitional period.

Nebraska had a similar situation when they fired Frank Solich (.753 winning percentage from 1998-2003). Many fans wanted to modernize/upgrade the Offense and move away from the Option-based attack that was successful for so many years, especially with Tom Osborne. (Personally, I really like so many aspects of Option football, and some of those Nebraska teams are among my favorites in college football history.) A lot of fans wanted more passing. Some fans and members of the media disagreed with the decision to fire Solich -- AD Steve Pederson got a lot of heat from that group. Nebraska hired Bill Callahan who installed a West Coast O -- it didn't work -- Callahan was fired in 2007 by Osborne (who became the AD after Steve Pederson was fired). I think Nebraska and Callahan made many mistakes in those four years. I won't go through all of them, but some of the biggest mistakes, in my opinion, were not reverently embracing some of the traditions and parts of the program that were unique and extremely important to Nebraska's success over the years, and trying to do things with players that didn't really fit their skill sets as the Offense transitioned. Callahan took a group of players that were recruited to run the Option and had them running a West Coast O -- a tough transition that maybe could've been made easier by doing more stuff on O that those guys were more comfortable with. It doesn't seem that LSU will have those issues with Coach Orgeron being a Louisiana native and having familiarity with LSU and the traditions and the people who have helped make LSU a great program. And with the timing of the change, there isn't even time to switch to a radically different scheme.

There are of course big differences between these two programs. LSU is in a much different (i.e., better) position than Nebraska in terms of recruiting and resources, but I think there are some similarities when comparing the two situations that LSU could learn from.

The Cornhuskers have struggled to get back to where they want to be, but they're off to good start this year with Mike Riley -- 4-0 with a big OOC Win over Oregon. By the way, NU currently lists eight players from Louisiana on their roster. 3 of their top 4 receivers are from Louisiana -- Alonzo Moore (Winnfield), Cethan Carter (New Orleans), and Stanley Morgan Jr. (New Orleans). Also, Kieron Williams (Shreveport) is NU's leading tackler.

I think it would be unfair to Coach Orgeron, the staff, and the players to have a set expectation level at this point. I'm too much of a contextualist to generally have set expectation levels anyway, but the timing and circumstances of this situation really make expectations for this season much less important, in my opinion.

They should have done it last season. You can blame Miles, but the people above him fricked this season.

I don't think so at all. The haters have said for years anyone can coach this team to 10 wins. Shouldn't matter who is in charge nor the circumstances.

Do you realize how bad Les had become? Truly our modern day Bobby Bowden where he did nothing right anymore. Over last 5 years he was 11-9 against ranked teams. Also we are now 4-5 over our last 9 games. And the only somewhat impressive team we have defeated in last 9 games was Texas a&m, while getting beat down by every other good team we have played. 4-5 and our wins are against a Jacksonville state, Texas tech, and a completely rebuilding Mississippi state team. We were already in step decline and it was not going to get better with miles at all

For Miles own sake If he was going to get fired in 2017 beter now than later. Saved him a lot of negative moments because scoring 13 point per game this season was heading into a complete disaster. Not ideal but as it is he won his last home game and went out still being fairly well liked.

One positive is we are the first team with a great job opening and can be looking for the best possible coach and make the hire sooner than other teams.

The LSU coaching job will be the best coaching opportunity available this year and we should get our pick.

I hope we don't let Herman dangle us all year and miss on the best available coach.

My personal opinion is Herman will not leave Houston, he is young and has time to make the move later and if he continues to bring the Houston program along he may be in line for the BAMA job.
