The right slot WR - who went out for a pass - was clearly ineligible:

No, he's off the line, and thus eligible. Also, it's clear that the widest receiver on the right, #2 IS on.

Do you REALLY think havign an extra man in the backfield mattered in that play

w.t.f.???

You have to cover all eligible receivers. The defense cannot cover six receivers. One has to be wide open.

And maybe if we had a play like that we could have run it after the Per Foul penalty.

Flat wrong.

Offense must have AT LEAST 7 on the line. They could have 10 on the LOS if they wanted.

You must be looking in respect to Cam Robinson, which doesn't matter. Per the rules, he is very much on:

quote:

A Team A player is on his scrimmage line when he faces his opponent’s goal line with the line of his shoulders approximately parallel thereto and either (a) he is the snapper (Rule 2-27-8) or (b) his head breaks the plane of the line drawn through the waistline of the snapper.

I just hate whining about technicalities, especially after we lose.

If there was a blatant holding that wasn't called that truly affected the play, then I can understand some whining.

But this??? Bama clearly fooled us on the play. Come on guys - nut up.

It was close, but the play looked legal to me.

Interesting, didn't know that's how they defined being on the line. So, #2 is definitely legally on the line. But Henry never stopped for a second near the Bama sideline, so it still should've been an illegal shift.

ARTICLE 2. a. Shift. After a huddle (Rule 2-14) or shift (Rule 2-22-1) and
before the snap, all Team A players must come to an absolute stop and remain
stationary in their positions for at least one full second before the ball is
snapped,
without movement of the feet, body, head or arms (A.R. 7-1-2-I).

So, as said, this should have been flagged. Unless I'm misreading what seems to be a very simple rule. Big D. Henry is actually moving while the ball is snapped. I believe I also read the QB can't signal for a snap during the shift either (obviously).

Ball snapped, he obviously is not set yet. He gets set when the ball is halfway to the QB.

Here's a bonus gif.. INT before halftime that lead to a Bama FG..
