The Troy loss was terrible and it really had me thinking this ship was sinking. BUT it may have been a good thing in the long term scheme of things. Yes, it was embarrassing but I think it made this team a whooooole lot better. Troy may have saved our season

Explain to me why it would be necessary to lose to Troy , to beat Florida and Auburn?

If you accept this premise as some sort of twisted "good thing", then for all intents and purposes you have written off championship level football at LSU .

Coaches must have their teams prepped and ready to win every week. Period. There are a myriad of reasons for losing certain games , but none qualify as a prerequisite to winning future games.

This team shoulda beat State , Troy , Florida and Auburn.
Period.

I think a 'scare' by Troy may have been enough, but it is what it is. We lost. Can't change it. I'm just glad they decided to show back up and compete like LSU players should.

Have you never heard any successful person Ever say that they learned more from failure than success?

By losing to Troy, this team had to look at itself in the mirror and address its flaws in order to become better. If we beat Troy then the flaws potentially never get addressed.

As a great man once said, a skilled sailor didn't become skilled without going through rough seas.

You don't have that chance in a college football season.

Losing once usually means you're out the hunt , much less losing to OOC cupcakes for homecoming.

Their are 12 regular season games and you learn things in losses , but in no way was losing to Troy a good thing.

LSU has enough talent to have beaten Troy....State....Florida....and Auburn.

The whole premise of trading a humiliating loss for victories we should have anyway , is not a solid premise.

Losing to Troy was not a neccesity in beating a bad Florida team and Auburn at home.

It's called spin.

Yes, according to this “logic “ Bama is really fricking up by kicking arse every game! How far are you O apologists willing to stretch logic and believability in order to rationalize this abomination of a hire?!

What if we hang with, and beat, Alabama this year?

Can you accept a Troy and MSState loss if that happens?

No.

LSU needs to beat State and beat Troy. Period.

I can live with tough hard fought losses to Alabama. I've become accustomed to going into Novembers still in the hunt. This dynamic of losing early and slowly building momentum back up as we go along is fool's gold.

Beat everyone on the schedule and let the Bama chips fall where they may.

We should never lose to Miss State or Troy, but whatever you can think of to set your mind at ease I guess.....

That's tough. MSU is still a conference game, which sucks arse. Troy is still a fricking Sunbelt team.

A win overr Bama is also very much desired.

Still going with no on this one, though.

I get what you are saying but this team just now figured out who they are. I don't see a let down game from them. I really think it only gets better from here. They should beat Ole Miss and give Bama a better game than most think. Bama is just on another level to think that this many freshmen can hang for 4 quarters with our depth but it will be a good barometer of years to come assuming O can recruit.

The team not knowing who they are in a game against Troy for Homecoming , no less, is squarely on the coaches. Identity comes from the top down.

Please take a look at the depth chart in detail. Just humor me. This team is not unlike many LSU teams over the last decade in terms of talent, depth and experience.

LSU has an identity and has had one for almost two decades. We know who we are and any identity crisis is on the head man.

The fact that you think that LSU and Bama are even remotely in the same boat is hilarious. You're comparing apples and oranges.

LSU is a team that was trying to find its identity after replacing a bunch of NFL guys and trying to play a new style of offense.

Bama on the other hand is a well oiled machine.

To think that a program like LSU, Florida, or Auburn can get to Bama's level without a few bumps in the road is hilarious.

The team that looks closest to Bama at the moment is UGA. Last season they went 7-5 and lost to Vandy. They took their lumps and learned from their mistakes and have come out stronger because of it.

Hell Saban went 6-6 in year 1 with a loss to ULM. They went through rough seas, now they are skilled sailors.

I'm sure it's been mentioned ITT, but a good team shouldn't need another wake-up call after getting thumped @ Miss St already this season.

I can definitely agree with that sentiment. The State game should have been the wake up call. We shouldn't have been licking our wounds 2 weeks later but unfortunately, we were

Edit: i would like to mention that I think that our team thought they were much better than they really were and that the loss to MSU was an incredible shock to them. It was really hard to stomach as a fan so I can't imagine how hard it was to take in as a player.

Do I wish they would have fixed their flaws without 2 embarrassing losses? Of course. But you can't change the past and I'm proud that they showed that they have some fight in them. Both losses were catastrophic failures for the coaching staff and the players but at the moment it looks like they are better off because of it.
