You have to have a qb that has a deep ball threat. We don't have that.

We had the receivers and a QB that COULD throw deep. We don't have an OC or HC that would allow it to occur.

or an offensive line that enables the qb enough time to throw

I wouldn't have been shocked at all.

My problem with the offensive game plan was the fact that we didn't (nor do we ever seem to) attempt a single play action pass the entire game. That should have been a key part of the game plan, including some deep balls off play action.

To me, it seems like Les and Crowton just run the same plays week in and week out regardless of our opponent and their weakness. We'll see the same shite on offense against Bama.

Our QBs had little time to throw deep. We aren't good at throwing deep either. We ran some WR bubble screens, but it would have been nice to see some other screens.

It was exactly 20 yards. Ball was on Aub 38 and pass deflected on the 18. Would have been more had JJ lead his receiver.

Besides, who's to say we didn't call more deep balls that JJ just ended up tucking and running?

The only real way to gash our defense is to either throw it deep or to throw a well set up screen pass (our LBs tend to miss a lot of tackles).

Plus it negates Fairly to a certain extent.

I saw a Pop Warner coach make an adjustment such as this a few weeks back

I fully expected this, and can say that a philosophy to limit the big play is not too bad, except it did not work...but if we had contained the big play we could have won.

What harms our defense is a lack of offensive support, the inability to feel confident in an attacking scheme is set up by an offense that is unable to help them out of any mistakes.

taylor was responsible for the 70 yard TD run

Seriously, you pin a whole host of frick ups on Taylor.

He had ONE of the missed assignments, not quite all 6 of them.

I'm glad you posted this. I didn't read the whole thread and missed where Taylor was discussed.

I expected and predicted soft zone and a ton of yardage between the 20's. I had no problem with that.

We were tied with 5:00 left in the game and had an opportunity prior to that to take the lead.

Now, if you had told me that our safeties were going to do more sliding than Rickey Henderson in run support, then maybe I might have changed philosophy.

Brandon Taylor took a poor angle, much like he did on the Julio Jones play of last year. It was a critical mistake at a very crucial moment. He had an opportunity to set up a third down, and instead turned it into a TD.

The offense only had one first down in the fourth quarter, so it may not have been as big of a game changer as it seemed.

1. Although I should know better, I was stunned at the offensive game plan. Auburn's secondary was supposed to be suspect yet we seldom ever challeged them. Most frustating thing about the game, in my opinion.

2. I have to admit that I thought that the type of D they played would work. What I didn't expect was just how passive the DL would be. Almost no penetration and Newton had a long time to pick his hole. I also would have liked to see some run blitzes to take away some of those running lanes.

what would you say the odds of LSU winning would be knowing this information?

i'll add in a 2nd part

if somebody told you Friday that LSU would change up our D and play a non-aggressive, contain/soft zone with DLs holding up all game, what would you say LSU's chances were?

If someone told me the gameplan would be to throw it deep on Auburn, I would have said we're gonna lose by 21+.

Piss poor adjustments OR no adjustments at all.

I promised myself Saturday night, while I drowned my sorrows in a bottle of Scotch, that I was going to stay away from the Rant until next week but I just can't because that word - "can't" - became a part of my speech pattern throughout the game, as in.....

I can't believe he threw that too high, RR was wide open....
I can't believe we're not throwing screens to negate Fairley....
I can't believe we're not taking advantage of their secondary....
I can't believe he's dropping all those balls....
I can't believe we're letting Newton run all over us like that.....

and so on and so on.......

My patience with the play calling is wearing thin....in fact, I'm down to the last few remaining threads in that fabric. I'm disappointed, I'm angry and...........

I can't believe they're wasting all that talent!!!!!!

Calgon take me away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
