re: If LSU Does Not Radically Improve and Make NCAA, You Have to Fire Jones

But it will be the same "guy" doing the hiring.
I am pretty anti Joe, but this was an LSU good ole boy hire

While his product was frustrating, he's met anyone's reasonable expectations from the state of the program when he took over
Not really. He's brought in some big recruits, but in the end, the results with those guys haven't been very impressive.
LSU was 18-14 (7-9) in Johnson's last year with an NIT birth. To his credit, Jones inherited a depleted roster and led them to a 19-12 (9-9) record in his first season. That may have been his best coaching job at LSU. Since then, it's been nothing but missed opportunities. In year 2 he had a frontcourt comprised of 3 players who would all make it to the NBA. JOBIII was an All SEC performer and Mickey was in serious contention for SEC Freshman of the year. Yet, he could only finish .500 in an incredibly weak SEC (only 3 teams made it to the NCAAT). Last year, with 2 players that would be drafted in the first 33 picks, he had a very up-and-down year. Some really good wins, coupled with some really bad losses. Overall it was a pretty good season, but you can't help but think it should have been better. If not for late season collapses by Ole Miss and A&M, LSU would have finished at least 5th in an SEC that really only had one juggernaut (UK) and one really good team (Ark)
Now, in the year that every LSU fan pointed to as "next year", his team has looked bad against a weak non-conf. schedule. First of all, shame on him for even having such a weak non-conf. schedule in an era where the committee emphasizes year after year the importance of playing a tough OOC schedule. Aside from that, this group is in serious jeopardy of already torpedoing any hope of an NCAAT bid. LSU is going to lose significant players from this year's team, and next year's incoming group of freshman can only be described as avg., at best. So it begs the question of "where is the program headed from here?"
Other teams in the SEC have taken noteworthy steps recently to improve their programs. Miss. St. hired Ben Howland; Tenn. hired Rick Barnes; Alabama hired Avery Johnson; Auburn hired Bruce Pearl last year. While they all had some issues at previous schools/teams, They ALL have significantly more "skins on the wall" than Jones. Plus, Alabama, MSU and Auburn currently have recruiting classes ranked in the top 20. In a year where LSU has a boatload of scholarships to give out and can offer tons of immediate playing time, the best Jones and co. can do is five 3 star players
We have to let this season play out. At the end if LSU is on the outside of the NCAAT looking in, then I think the powers that be have to seriously evaluate where the program is headed. LSU could be in danger of quickly getting left behind in the SEC.

What the frick? He played football and is 100% a "football guy".
Are you calling him a basketball guy because he was the AD at Duke and inherited Coach K and arguably the best basketball program in the country?

IF they haven't fired Nikki Caldwell-Fagrus yet they won't fire Jones after this season.
Losing Mickey really hurt this team, period. You can not coach toughness and Robinson and Malone do not have it. Bridgewater has it but is developing as a player.
THe biggest surprise disappointment so far this season is that Musselman was told to kick rocks because he didn't have the impact on defense that they were expecting, well, who ever they replaced him with has been a dumpster fire.
Also, Blakney looked strong in the first two games but has all buy disappeared since then. I mean he is looking worse than Quarterman looked in his Freshman season. Speaking of Quarterman, WTF happened to him? Last year he was Mr. clutch, and lock down defense. That Quarterman is AWOL so far this season.
JJ doesn't get as pass, the ball needs to be in #25 hands, He creates and opens up lanes for everyone else.
Getting Hornsby back was important and hopefully Victor can replace some of Mickey's production in the paint, but if team defense does not improve they will be lucky to win 6 SEC games.
BTW, everyone want JJ fired, Who do you replace him with?

Womens basketball =/= Mens basketball
Boosters won't beat down the door for anything to do with women's sports.

There are several mid-major programs with up-and-coming good coaches that would be an upgrade.

But why? Miles doesn't make the playoffs and nobody is firing him.

Has to be a troll.
I want Miles to retire to nip the programs trend in the bud and get fresh blood in here, but he at least deserves some credit for the titles and maintaining a top notch program in regards to talent, facilities, etc.
And 64 teams > 4 teams.

One SEC team has made the playoffs so far. Why didn't every other team fire their coach?

So far it appears that like Dale Brown, JJ does more with less and less with more. At one point under DB, LSU had Shaq, Chris Jackson, Maurice Williamson, Stanley Roberts and Vernell Singleton. That team did not fare so well in the tourney-- one and done if memory serves me.
I'm not ready to carry a pitchfork, yet. Let's see how the season plays out. Getting talent is one thing, coaching that talent and team chemistry is another. Unfortunately, Simmons will not be here next year- so time is of the essence.

No but they haven't really brat down the door for Men's basketball either in recent years.

LSU is getting lots of attention nationally for underachieving. JJs best attribute may become more difficult if he is unable to shake the reputation he is earning.

Bennett's making 2.1M/yr at UVA and requires a $3m buyout before 2018.
Don't know if that means he would be too rich for LSU, fyi JJ renewed his contract in 2014 to put him at 1.5M/yr through 2019.
