Weather and public safety trump ESPN, despite what they would have you believe.

Yeah, it SHOULD trump ESPN (in other words, it should matter more than money), but it kind of doesn't in today's world. Trust me, I hate ESPN as much as the next guy, but I have a feeling LSU will do everything in their power to keep this one going.

Cancel a game and school when temps are in the 30's? Not sure if serious.

It's going to rain and sleet Tuesday. Rain and sleet with temperatures in the 20's (under freezing), means treacherous traveling, esp. with residents not used to icy roads.

So yes, it is serious.

Well SEC, you can go ahead and keep the game, but there won't be anyone there. That would be sad. Best chance for a good crowd this year.

@MHarrisAdvocate
If UK and officials can get into town tonight, simply have to find a way to the PMAC tomorrow.

@Rome_TDR
Bottom line: the #SEC doesn't care about fans (or reporters) making it. If coaches, officials and workers are there, play ball.

Hoops game before 50 fans. That sounds like fun.

Baylor and Kentucky had a mens/womens doubleheader in Dallas earlier this year on ESPN during very poor weather conditions. There was like no one there, but the game went on. Fwiw.

I believe legally they can. It would be like a Sunday. There are no classes on Sunday to attend that day. Whether it makes good sense to do so or not is what is germane. If they cancel the game it may or not be rescheduled. It would only be played if it meant a difference to the tournament ceding.

LSU moved their gymnastics meet last Friday night to Saturday at 1. Why? So that the fans who wanted to come wouldn't be on the road in poor conditions. That wasn't a basketball game against Kentucky on ESPN. This is. They probably won't have the same protocol.

exactly. if uk is here, the game will be played imo.

Agreed. These games stopped being all about/for the fans in attendance a long time ago.

LSU spokesman Kent Lowe, however, said at the moment the school is planning to play the game as scheduled. But that also came with a caveat: “You have to wait and see if the weather happens first.” Lowe remembers being part of a game at Ole Miss in 2011 when it snowed five inches the day of the game, shutting down campus and making local roads impassable. “But the teams were there, officials were there and TV was there,” he said, “so they played the game, threw the doors open and if you could get there, get there. About 1,500 students showed up.” The UK-LSU officiating crew was trying to get to Baton Rouge on Monday night, ahead of the storm, Lowe said. UK spokesman John Hayden said the Cats planned to proceed normally. Their flight was already scheduled to leave Lexington after practice Monday evening. “I don’t think there’s going to be any decision until sometime tomorrow, and that would have to involve the SEC,” Lowe said. “If it is really bad tomorrow and our people and Kentucky’s people and the league decide it’s too bad and it’s not safe to put the teams out there — especially Kentucky having to come to the arena — I think there is the possibility of something.”

The game being at 8:00 won't help things... Sleet/Ice is expected to start around 9-10am tomorrow and not really stop, that means close to 12 hours of ice/snow before tip-off time and about 10 hours before the teams would probably arrive at the arena... Just don't see it happening tomorrow if the weather is as bad as expected

Again, smaller scale, but LSU's women's basketball team was at Missouri last year for a Thursday night game. They got 9 inches of snow that day, and the game was postponed til 1:00 on Friday. That game was also supposed to be on TV, but TV never made it there.

Who is to say if it is safe or not for Kentucky to make it to the arena? If we get the same road closures tomorrow that we got last week, it will be tough, but I guess it can be done.

I just think it is very irresponsible to stage a game and say "get here if you can". People in this area need as little encouragement as possible to be on the roads with ice everywhere.
