The only thing that matters is if we win the west or finish 2nd behind an unbeaten Miss St. The standings are:

* - Miss State 5-0 8-0
* - Alabama 4-1 7-1
* - Auburn 4-1 7-1
* - Ole Miss 4-2 7-2
* - LSU 3-2 7-2
* - Texas A&M 2-3 6-3
Arkansas 0-5 4-5

The only one we would have to worry about is Auburn. Auburn would have to lose two times for us to jump them. So if Aub only loses to Bama that would give them two losses also, but wouldn't they be ranked higher than us because they beat us?

So doesn't this only come down to Auburn losing two times? Or am I not correct in that assumption? How could we jump Auburn if they beat us and we have the same record?

Then if Miss St lost to Bama and Ole Miss they would go to the SEC champ over us, right? If that is the case, then we are better off having Miss st win out because it looks better for our strength of schedule.

Having said all that, if Miss St wins out and Aub loses two times then we would finish 2nd in the SEC. Fl state probably won't lose which means two of the four spots are full. With that scenerio that would leave 9 legitimate 1 loss teams including Duke if none of they lose that we would have to contend with. I'm sure a bunch will lose another game along the way, but if there's a few that's just impossible for us to make it.

LSU has to win out

Auburn will need to lose two more, and that can realistically happen. They play their two biggest rivals on the road: @Georgia and @Bama. That would give them 3 loses if it goes how we want. They also play A&M at home, but that's likely a win for Auburn.

MSU would need to lose @Bama and @Ole Miss.

That creates a 4-way tie: LSU, Bama, MSU, Ole Miss

LSU Wins the west! It could happen. The teams we'd need to lose all play tough road games

This just about covers it. Only games that aren't mentioned are Vandy @ MSU (not expecting anything special there) and Ole Miss @ Arky. It's better for us if Ole Miss wins out, since we have head-to-head over them.

What "3 very quality wins" would LSU have? Alabama, Ole Miss and who else would you include as a very quality win?

I think he is suggesting Wisconsin, who, if they finish 10-2, would definitely be a quality win. We might all like to poke fun at the Big 10 (B1G), but wins over teams like Wisconsin, Michigan St and Ohio St are still worthy of respect.

According to sports broadcasters on jocks this morning, Ole miss is ranked higher because of the narrow loss to auburn compared to our asswhipping auburn put on us. Never mind that we beat ole miss heads up. ?? What kind of logic is this shite?
It's the same logic that led to the BCS in the first place. Remember a few years ago, when there was a similar situation with Fla St and Miami (I think). Both finished 10-1, but the team that won that matchup got left out.
Can't quite remember the exact year or circumstances, but I still remember the circular logic.

Ok- it was 2000. Miami won the game; Fla St was picked to play for the national title on the basis that the Miami loss was "better" than Miami's loss to 10-1 Washington.

The playoff committee puts huge emphasis on head to head

Since there's never been a playoff committee before, there's no way of knowing this.

A 10-2 LSU is certainly behind a 10-2 Bama. We will have to win the SEC.

At 10-2 to finish the season LSU would have to beat Bama so they would end up ranked above them.

And this, my friends, is why we can't have nice things.

for the life of me I cannot understand why people think that this committee will do a better job selecting the most deserving teams. For one, they do not watch all these teams play week in and week out, certainly not as much as the AP sports writers do. People, by nature, also have inherent bias. Lastly, what is more likely to result in bias, a group of 60 voters or one 1/5 the size? I just don't see why people thought replacing two human polls and a computer metric with one single, and small, human voting body would somehow be more "fair." They should have kept the BCS formula the same and just added more teams for a playoff.

If you people think LSU will jump Bama after beating them you are delusional.

Short of a blowout, the gap is too wide for us to jump Bama even after beating them. Which is why we need to win the SEC and force the committee's hand to have any chance at the playoff.

It's irritatating as frick that this year, the first year of the playoffs, two mediocre teams from the Landmass decide that they'll have decent football teams.
Talk about eff up a wet dream.

Hopefully, they'll return to obscurity soon enough and allow the real teams to compete for the well-deserved playoff spots.

If LSU finishes 11-2, then that means they win the SEC (the 11th win would be the conference championship).
If somehow that happens, we have to be one of the 4. I mean, sure, you can seed us behind a 10-2 Auburn or State if you like, but you HAVE to take the SEC champ... right?

Ole Miss will still make the playoffs before LSU in my opinion and according to the LSU will always be the best just because knows the legacy and is a part of it, so we will see
