If Jimbo backed out, should Alleva have gone the coaching search route?

I may be in the minority, but I think in Jimbo had a tentative deal then backed out, Alleva did the right thing by retaining Miles, rather than forming a search committee. I think the leak is was really hurt the university. This could have been down without it being public and we would not have ended up looking like we don't know what we are doing.

we carried the man off the field on the players shoulders in victorious fashion. Next time, it will be in a Loss and we'll drag him by his ankles.

Jimbo was never asked because this whole debacle was media fueled BS with a guy with his "inside source".

THE END

The university never should have leaked anything in the first place. if you're really trying to lock Jimbo up, keep it behind closed doors all the way until you reach a deal. If you do, announce it then. If not, never let it out. Why they did so early blows my mind and really hurt LSU's image big time.

Thankfully he did. Otherwise we'd be without a coach, Jimbo staying at FSU, and we'd be in an immediate downward spiral.

A you telling me that the crowd support at the game saved Miles' job? I was at the game, most fans were paying their respects, not asking for more.

I agree. It was Jimbo/Homerun hire, or retain Miles(for 1 more year and then weigh our options again).

We'll be having the same discussion next year unless Les finds a way to beat Bama and/or win the west.

OP brings up a good point. The list of programs looking for coaches is starting to look like a soup line. Perhaps it's better to be out of that fray.

If the guy LSU wanted wasn't available, then they should keep Miles (which they did).

It's the way they handled it that's the problem.

No. If he'd kept his mouth shut and handled this like Georgia did then yes. But by Saturday we could not have afforded another month of this shite. Would have lost the entire recruiting class and risked further embarrassment if anyone turned us down. I didn't want Miles fired but I was more disappointed with the process then the potential firing itself. Just thought the entire thing was mismanaged and had he gone about it a different way, he might have gotten what he wanted.

As someone who think a change is needed, I agree with this. You don't pay a guy $15M to go away and not have the coach you want locked up. A lot of people like Herman and be may ne the next best thing but he may be another flash in the pan.

Meyer has had successful offenses everywhere he's been so who's to say Herman just ran Meyer's offense.

The media (minus Booger) was painting the whole fan base and boosters as delusional and spoiled. The theater in Tiger Stadium Saturday night was spun as an overwhelming show of support for Miles. The administration would have looked like a massive dick to shitcan him after that spectacle especially if Jimbo wasn't in the bag. Alleva is out of his league in the world of LSU athletics and Louisiana politics.

You would really have to be fool to think:

It was obvious that the team thought it was his last game in Tiger Stadium - if it was for beating A&M, wouldn't he have gotten carried off the last four years?

Are you saying Miles knew that Alleva was looking for a coach and leaked it? How could he possibly know?
