The football hire is supposed to define Alleva's legacy. Alleva himself a year ago even said that this was a critical hire.

Alleva has done a great job. He will be with us until he retires on his own. If we are lucky, he will stick around for another 20 years.

It actually makes the O hire worse. It shows that Alleva is capable of doing a proper coaching search but failed to when it involved the only sport that matters.

This is only 1 sport at LSU. If football is successful, an AD could close up all the other teams and literally nobody but those players, coaches and parents would really notice.
