For the record I am not insinuating Jones is as good of a coach as the criminally underrated Billy Donovan. Just pointing out how idiotic this thread is by comparing Jones in his second year to one of the nations best in Donovan in his 18th

fricking this.

I am so sick of reading all of these "fans" writing Jones off in freaking year 2. We lost 3 heartbreakers that probably would have gotten us in the tournament. We also had 3 freshmen on the court quite a bit of the season.

I am not very happy about how we looked at times either, but it's not like you can fix the mess trent johnson left in merely one full off-season. that's absurd

I definitely didn't start this thread comparing Jones to Dovanan, I was simply implying that Jones needs to be taking notes of this Florida team, and should be modeling the program after this one. It is a proven model.

CJJ has said on many occasions, that he wants to build a program and play like FL! If we had the perimeter players FL has, we would have won at least 5 more games.

It does make it harder when you have that many freshman in major roles. Every once in a while you get a team like UK who can look great with freshman studs all over the court, but we're not on UK's level of recruiting. So hopefully, their best improvement will be from year one to year two.

So, do you have any actual observations of aspects of Florida's program that LSU could actually implement? Or is your point basically "Florida is real good at basketball. We should be stop being bad at basketball and start being good at it."

No I think it takes time for teams to improve. Just like it took Donavan until his 3rd season before he had a winning record I expect CJJ to show significant improvement next season.

The most incredible part about this UF team is all these guys arent even NBA players. They are just good college guys who stuck around for 4 years

And that is why I'm pulling for them to win it all. The Kentucky model makes me puke

What, the model of getting the best recruits year in and year out?

We should model our program like Florida as far as basketball

Yeah, right.

How LSU hasn't been able to put together a contender for over 30 years is unbelievable.

I gave Trent a chance, but after a while you saw the program going down the toilet on a scale I've never seen before. But you saw it going the wrong way. We've got a long way to turn this around. But the difference is, you should be able to see the improvement down the road. We were in some games we would have been blown out of a few years ago. We've got good recruits coming in. There is some expectations being set for the team.

And I wasn't a huge fan of the hire originally. But he's doing a good job of turning the program around. He just needs to work on that game day coaching.

that's the biggest thing too me. If you step back and look critically, things are getting better. albeit slower than we'd all like, but they ARE getting better

I could very easily see Jones in his third year next year equaling Billy Ds mark of 22-9.
We would finish in the top two or 3 in the SEC, top 30 in the country... you see this "very easily"?

Our basketball problem is simple and it's not CJJ. The dude can recruit with the best of them. Solid leader and disciplinarian. Great ambassador.

If we had a better X&O's assistant that could help with game management we would be in the Tourny, IMHO.

I just hope in the off season CJJ manages to make a switch on the bench.

To start, I am not even sure we have the right mix of talent to be a top 30 team regardless of coach.

Having said that, on CJJ:
A) I think it is too early to call him a "great" recruiter... too many people are comparing him to Trent who was a really bad recruiter in this state.
B) CJJ's problems aren't as much X's and O's but that he makes bad/no adjustments and becomes a spectator during games. Deer in headlights. Unless you bring in an assistant who will stand up to call out plays and make substitutions, it won't help much.
