Being that 2 of our Football National Championship have happened in New Orleans and we are a Louisiana school, I think the Mardi Gras beads are great and unique.

Focus on other things.

"did I reply to your message, "Cap"?"

Uhh . . . no sir *tips hat*

Anyway this is directed towards the group: old school means that you realize that the majority of the fanbase may hold a different view than your own old school view. Being old school doesn't mean that you think that the new way of doing things sucks or is wrong in any way . .it's just that being old school means that you prefer things in the "retro" "old schoold" way . . . probably because you might be older than today's LSU students.

Thatis all.

I agree with you there buddy. Especially when they are walking around Rosenblatt throwing beads around like they are in a parade. I mean, if you're from Louisiana then you must have a stash of Mardi Gras bead at your house, right?

Every Louisianian has a bag of beads at home just like every Leprechaun has a pot of gold.

Old school would also mean "glass beads" and very, very few throws at Mardi Gras, especially compared to todays parades.

I disagree. The Mardi Gras beads are seen as indigenous to Louisiana and associated, by outsiders, in a very favorable way with LSU. It reinforces that "let the good times roll" perception that people have about LSU fans. The same cannot be said for people wearing them at NASCAR events.

+1

Also better than those stupid oversized cowboy hats with the horns on the front.

The LSU Superman & Batman are cool too. Whoever they are.

I think if those people pay money to go to Omaha and support their team then they should wear whatever they please. You have certain things that are associated with your team. We have vocal fans who love to have a good time. And don't our school colors have something to do with Mardi Gras or something anyway?

Maybe my statement was too harsh on the original poster, but Les Bon Temps Rouler. If they want to wear beads in Omaha or any other nationally televised setting, I am all for having fans out there supporting the Tigers and enjoying themselves.

I love the beads...in fact, most other schools have copied LSU and have beads made in their school colors.Having travelled in the post-season with the football team & women's basketball team, handing out Mardi Gras beads is not only a tradition but also a way to make friends in the cities where post-season events are held. I once was hailed by a coliseum worker for beads in Knoxville while at a Regional...it's not hokey, it's Louisiana and I'm proud of my State, my Team, and My beads!

Glass Beads??!! Holy shite. I had completely forgotten about glass beads being thrown at Mardi Gras. You just reminded me.

Glass Beads are extremely old school. My earliest memories of Mardi Gras sitting on the home made seat at the top of the ladder do contain recollections of seeing only a few glass beads amongst our MG Day haul of four or five Schweggmann's bags full of stuff. Point is that glass beads were rare even in my earliest days in the mid-1960s, so, that's even more old school than I am.

Thanks for reminding me about glass beads being thrown on MG day . . . they definitely were thrown, and, when the string broke upon being caught, those glass beads made a mess !

only LSU fans from new orleans should be allowed to wear mardi gras beads to any sporting event. all other fans should be restricted to only wearing beads to events that take place in new orleans
