He has caught the ball as well or better than any of our other receivers this year. I can remember some very good catches actually and yes some drops as well although that one in the end zone was a touchdown even though it wasn't called as one.

that wasn't a TD. he needed to control the ball all the way thru.

but you're right, he catches better than ppl give him credit for. and even though he's been slammed a few times, he's never fumbled and never been hurt. he gives good effort on blocking on offense and busts his arse on special teams.

and you don't just cut him because he contributes.

the "offensive philosophy" is the exact some thing that Bama has. only differences is that when a play has to be made, Bama makes it. We dont.

It's all Russell Shepard's fault.

In our last 6 SEC games our WRs have 2 TD catches combined. Guess who has both of those

ok...I'll take the bait. You clearly love RS.

Who would you rather see him take touches from running the ball - Ware, Blue (when healthy), Ford?

Catching (when it occurs) - Beckham, Boone, Magee?

Passing (when given time) - Mettenberger?

Please tell me who is better than at these positions? I'm being serious.

RS should of either been used like a Percy Harvin or like an Oregon QB. I for one wish it was like a OR QB and that we would run a spread. Having a high octane offense and our defense, we wouldnt lose ever. We totally wasted this guys talent.

We have seen what these offenses do with SEC defenses.

Oregon vs Auburn
Oregon vs LSU
West Virgina vs LSU
Michigan vs Bama

shall i keep going?

See now you have evolved the argument to one that you can win.....In our offense with our coaching and our philosophy it would be foolish to get the ball to Shepard more than we do.

I think he could take 2-3 carries from Ware and we would be OK.....but shite I think Carramrod could take a few of Ware's carries and we would be OK.

5, 10, or half a dozen other at the moment. Although you can't deny that Shepard gets more seperation than any of these guys.....with maybe the exception of Magee who we really haven't seen a good sample size of (not sure why you put him in there)

Passing (when given time) - Mettenberger?

I'd absolutely like to see a different look at QB sometimes if Mett can handle being taken out of the game without mentally imploding.....not Shepard though....but why bring in Bolden if not to give him a chance.

Shepard is probably not better, in our offense, at any of these positions than the guys you listed but again I go back to......"Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is insanity." Are you OK with insanity on offense?

And....I still stand by my original stance that Shepard would be very productive in an Oregon type offense.

Coming into this season RS averaged 6.8 yds/ carry and 9.1 yds/ catch.

Like one of the previous poster's said, move him around to create mismatches and decoys.

Shepherd has wasted his own time! He just hasn't developed into the Athlete he was recruited for. I will agree however, that a direct snap-pass of sorts would potentially be a good idea.

Is the point that we should rebuild our scheme to fit RS?
RS doesn't throw well, doesn't catch well and trends to run sloppy routes.
I like him a lot, but he has not been wasted any more than many others...
RR, for example, WAS wasted and nearly gained a 1000 yds, receiving. He had choices, and wisely moved on to the NFL.

You all miss the fact that R.S. chose to become a receiver. When he was recruited, he stated that he chose LSU because Les offered him the chance to compete at QB. His sophomore year he chose for what ever reason to concentrate on receiver. That probably had something to do with Billy Gonzales coming over from Florida after Percy Harvin choked him out. You say Shep doesn’t get the ball he's already dropped at least one sure touchdown. There are four running backs that could start anywhere else in the country, where else do you put him but the slot. R.S. Wants more touches its simple, run your routes better, get separation, and catch the fricking ball! If these guys start catching passes this team is undefeated the rest of the way.

RS seems like the 1st round NFL pick that was highly thought of but winds up being a bust...he never has seemed to adjust to the college football game.
