God help us if this is accurate.

This is a very poor example of "letting our coaches coach" O.

If this is true, it is VERY disappointing.
Some of us with grave doubts about the hire of The Orgeron want to reserve judgment and hope for the best.
However, the is a really disturbing glimpse at Da Coach O's philosophy, IF it is accurate.

I don't care how tough he is. Delaying surgery for the spring game is stupid, even if he feels like he is earning a starting position. However, this is not as stupid as Da Coach O allowing the QB's to be live targets, PARITCULARLY with Etling's condition.

My comments weren't related to whether or not to have surgery before or after the Spring game. Just that he is a tough kid and will be back no matter when he has surgery. Personally I'm with you that he should have had the surgery right after the season ended. No sense waiting and making things worse. But, neither one of us is Danny or his doctors so we have to figure that they all made the best decision with or without Coach O. I haven't seen any evidence that Coach O would jeopardize anyone's long term health like Miles did with Fournette's ankle. That was wrong in my opinion.

WTF? Miles wouldn't even let Fournette dress out for the games that didn't matter. Fournette wanted to be on the field and any coach in America would try to use his best player if that player is available. Fournette was good-great in every game he played in except Florida (which he should have never played in to begin with - but that's on O), and Bama.

Miles had a lot of faults as a coach. I don't understand how his handling of Fournette is one of those.

What the frick was our starting QB who has a back condition that is getting worse and needing surgery doing taking hits in a meaningless SG?

There seems to be a serious disconnect somewhere or some are just trying to give him cover for his bad performance.

Fournette was clearly injured in the Auburn game and miles kept him in there.

It's have surgery. He's having surgery. Once it's over he will have had back surgery. You don't get surgery. You have surgery. thx

You are right this info has been out there for a while. It evidently has not reached a lot of garage tenants or they would have know as you did weeks ago. He postponed it for weeks to be there for the install of the offense. The surgery was described as minor and minimally invasive and recovery is weeks to months. Personally any back surgery I would be having would not be minor to me.

If any of 1) Etling, 2) Etlings Docs or Canada felt that Etling needed his surgery but The Orgeron insisted he participate in spring drills (and "live", with QB's open targets), that is significant and troubling.

Ask yourself why Miles ran Fournette so many downs when he knew he was hurt. Yes, he sat out some but never was allowed to heal properly. With Guice and Williams right there, why did he feel the need to wear Fournette out? Miles' style of offense was toss right and toss left and was extremely predictable. That's why it was wrong to do this. Every superstar player wants to be on the field to carry his team but you don't allow this to their detriment and to that of the teams'. And yes, O should have kept Fournette off of the field against Florida. But, Fournette wanted it that bad. O gave him a shot and it was a bad decision but not intentional on O's part. None of us will ever know what really happened and it was just my opinion of my observation on Miles. I like the guy a lot but his decisions were terrible with the offense. It didn't help Fournette heal properly. You have to give me that.

do you really think the doctors would let him continue to keep playing if he was in serious risk of getting hurt worse?

It was pretty much how much he could tolerate and DANNY was actually the one that kept pushing to practice as he did not want to fall behind with a new OC in town...

As someone who's had multiple back surgeries let me tell you the minimally invasive thing is bullshite. It just means a smaller scar. They still rip and cut the same amount on the inside.

No such thing as a minor back surgery. Coach O being very disingenuous here.

I hope he didn't have a microdiscectomy/laminotomy. Those just put you at further risk for reherniation. That's what happened to Tiger. Went in for "minor" surgery and has reherniated 2-3 times already and is washed up.

Why on earth was LSU playing a guy at QB with a chronic back injury?

"Danny Etling has back surgery"

This was reported and denied by the staff last year, and everyone wrote the story off as false.
