Hypocrisy of those who denigrate Dale Brown's accomplishments

There is much hypocrisy in the way some of the LSU fan base views the Dale Brown era. Many denigrate LSU for not currently being at the level of the current programs which are the caliber LSU was under Brown. Yet the same fans denigrated Brown and LSU when they were one and done or lost a close game in the playoffs.
Truth is we would name the court at the PMAC after a coach who would achieve what Brown did? Now there is an idea whose time has come. While we are at lets include the coach on the distaff side who was also a legend in her own right. The Brown Gunter court would be appropriate.

This is bull shite. I sat watching and bitching about Dale in 1983 in my Best Friends living room and his big brother jumped our arse for it. That big brother is now Dale Browns son in law and I would bitch about him again if I had too. Dale was a great LSU coach but he sucked in game coaching.

Dale Brown does not deserve his name on the court. Just because he was our most successful does not make him a legend.

Its a recurrent theme at LSU:
Nice guy
Lots of talent
Shitty Coach

No please no. Dale Brown left the program in shambles and Dale also was one of the reasons that jones got a chance. Neither could coach.

Dale Brown is an American original . Starting in 1983, I missed one home game in nine years . Every game was fun . And what a run of great players. Dale Brown deserves mad respect.

Have we ever had a coach at LSU that didnt lose to inferior teams?

Obviously that's debatable (though I tend to agree with you)

All time legend? No. LSU legend? Absolutely! Brown took a poor program and for over 15 of his 25 years as HC made LSU basketball a must see event. Never was the national exposure greater, and while his tenure ended on a bad note, throughout the 80's and early 90's he had the PMAC rocking. I would say LSU basketball was every bit as big as LSU football when Brown had things going. Brown never shied away from attention or big games.
He was hated at the end because of the way the program came crashing down. He's hated to some extent now because people blame him for the Johnny Jones tenure. However, the good FAR outweigh the bad. LSU basketball was never more exciting than it was under Brown. Hopefully Wade can bring that back

Dale had considerable success here considering the budget constraints we had here then, and the fact that we are a football school, and that program had terrible budget/nepotistic admin problems then as well

Who's ever had that besides perennial doormats?

The Hall of Fame and elite coaches beaten by Dale Brown during his career include:
Rupp, Joe B , Pitino, Sutton, Thompson, Meyer, Digger, Bartow, Newton, Richardson, , Olson, Lewis, Tubbs, Sanderson, Mears, Cremins, Kramer, and thats just a start.

Brown had a great impact on LSU's program when he was head coach. You can't deny two Final Fours and a handful of outright SEC regular-season titles.
But he was like Les Miles in that he was a good recruiter and a poor gameday coach. He essentially cut corners and mailed it in his last four seasons as head coach. And he obviously had enough influence to get Jones hired as head coach.
That's not hypocrisy to mention it. It's part of the record. Long-time coaches often have messy departures and complicated legacies if you choose not to put blinders on. They're human beings so no surprise there's good and bad to Brown's legacy here. It's not cut and dried.

Is there some rule that a stadium/court/field has to be named after someone? I just think we need higher standards. You can appreciate a person's contributions without having to name something after them.

He was just not a coach worthy of that honor.
Great recruiter, great promoter.
Always questions about NCAA compliance even in the old days.
Had great players, less frequently great teams.
Good guy, tho'

Classic case of when something gets stated often enough gullible people believe it. You dont win 446 games and achieve what he did just on recruiting alone.

The hypocrisy is lauding those top program today and not appreciating when Brown once had LSU in that same position. Yes you consider the career from start to finish, The end of his career would look a lot different with a healthy Randy Livingston leading teh way.

Are you going to suggest Miles was a great game day coach?
Pls elaborate.

What would it take for you to believe a coach qualifies to have the court named after him. Win a national championship? Brown took a program from the doldrums to staring the Big Blue dragon in the eye over an epic 15 year period.
