They will be fine. When they start to really gel, watch out.

Add to that a half-court offense that consists mostly of standing around, one pass, and a contested two or a long three--

People keep saying contested. We missed A LOT of wide open 3s. Also, having a player with size that can actually move should help the offense greatly

I am aware of this.

That's why I said a contested TWO and a LONG three--the implication is that the trey was uncontested.

He's not tough inside, mentally nor physically. he would get raped in the NBA. sorry boys but that is how it is. he just isn't a dominating player inside. could he be dominating by season's end? No. He's just a very good freshman player. Sorry, that's it.

In 1981 a talented LSU team was embarrassed in the November Great Alaska Shootout by a Georgetown team which had not yet become the power house they were a few years later. Dale ripped into them and used it as a teaching moment. That team did not lose again until March at Rupp Arena and went on to the Final Four.

Not saying this team would duplicate it, but there is good young talent which grew up a little despite these losses to fairly good teams. Don't forget they were missed last second shots from winning both games.

Lets reserve judgment on this team until mid January when they have the preseason and a draconian early SEC schedule behind them plus two months of playing together with all the pieces.

Culotta made a good point that there were some serious parallels between football and basketball. Winning on pure talent...non-disciplined ball, bad coaching. If Johnny doesn't have his best season this year, considering the talent we have, his seat needs to start getting warm.

3/4 if not 4/4 of sampson, quarterman, blakeney, and Simmons will be gone next year.

You want to out money that he's a lotto pick since that is "just how it is"?

With a bad season, he's still going top 5./

What do maquette and nc state have in common? Their first 2 wins came against IUPUI and LSU, LOLSU JJ would find a way to lose to IUPUI as well so I'd say we're on par with them.

Robinson (too slow), Bridgewater (too short), Epps (reluctant to play physical inside) and Malone (shouldn't be an SEC player)

Spot on! Add that Robinson has terrible hands.

This isn't just Homer talk either:

ESPN

Simmons is the best player in the class of 2015 -- and some have even argued the best talent since LeBron James. There's an assumption he'd be a little more self-centered.

Best thing that could have happened to them IMO. Sometimes you have to go back to go forward.
This. They're so young and talented that all they've ever known is winning. These loses should teach them that they're not unbeatable and that they'll have to grind to get wins against quality opponents.

Good post.

I think it falls like this:

Simmons--definitely gone
Quarterman--definitely gone
Blakeney--definitely gone
Sampson--very likely gone
Hornsby--gone (senior)
Gray--gone (senior)

Next year we'll basically be starting from scratch and there are still rantards hollering like they do with Les and the football team: "We YOUNNNGGG!! Next year!!"

It's nice that JJ can reel in such a great class, but what can he do with them in the one year he has them?

I was disappointed in the NYC trip, too, but we are presently a poor rebounding team and that could change significantly when Victor arrives. In basketball, a single player can make an enormous difference, and we are still yet to see Victor and Hornsby this year.

I'll be worried if we struggle in sec play with Victor and Hornsby.

Too early to be talking about NIT and that crap

I don't expect Blakeney to have many games like the last 2

Simmons and TQ are gone, but if Sampson and Blakeney are gone next year too, it's because we won a NC. I'll take that.

The defensive play was very upsetting....and looked like a bunch of standing around on offense.

did anyone really believe that would change from last year to this year? Anyone who has followed JJ knows better than this. His basketball IQ is absolutely zero when it comes to philosophy. He learned under a terrible X's and O's coach and it shows. The difference was evident against Marquette when facing a coach K disciple. It was hard to watch.

It was a disappointment to see them play the way they did on both O and D.

But it's early and certainly not ready to give up on them but it was disappointing. That tournament was right there for the taking. Looked
