Another question is how many people who are bitching travel for LSU games? I do and im much more likely to go to Nashville than back to Houston.

Please tell me how LSU playing in the Texas bowl against a 6-6 team gains them any exposure they are missing out on?

I am from Texas, have family members who coach high school football, and I worked as a broadcaster in sports radio in the state for 7 years. I covered recruiting extensively and can tell you that, in Texas, it is a cut-throat business. Too many coaches from across the nation infiltrate it. Charlie Strong is making waves in the state right now and kids are buzzing about the future of the horns. Anything LSU can do to keep a competitive advantage over any Texas school is a plus.

I understand you may disagree about this, and that is your right. I will never intentionally belittle someone else's opinion. But, surely, we can agree that we both want what is better for LSU at the end of the day. The key to success at LSU is keeping LA talent in state, attracting some national prospects, and edging out as much of the competition in Texas as possible. Texas is a goldmine for talent. We win the recruiting battle there, we compete for championships.

quote:

Conference expansion has opened up the state to the SEC like never before, and Texas is likely to be recruiting against Alabama, LSU and Florida more than ever. If 2013 has shown us anything, it’s that the state is vulnerable and Texas no longer has a clear stranglehold on things. The only thing that will change that is winning. While there figures to be many more battles to come in 2014, the Longhorns can win their share if they’re back in the mix for the Big 12 title and the national crown while reversing the unsavory trend against Oklahoma. If the upcoming season doesn’t show drastic improvement, then the Longhorns can count on recruiting to involve less cherry-picking and more fistfights.

The only way that playing in location X helps recruiting, and it's a miniscule amount, is if a kid or his parents are worried about coming to X school because their friends and family will never get to see them play.

"Coach, I want to come but my friends back home will never be able to go that far to see me play"

"Well son, we played a game in your back yard last January"

That's it. The whole let's schedule a game here "for recruiting purposes" has little if any merit in this day and age

I think the difference in kickoff times between both games is the larger determining factor of exposure. Not as much as location. And the main recruiting tool come bowl season is exposure, imo.

I do agree that in the slight chance of losing to Texas that would be more hurtful than elsewhere ha

So you think that while the team is in Nashville preparing for the bowl game, the coaches will be "looking at players in that region" and catching "quick flights to the Carolinas" for some more recruiting?

So you believe coaches did no recruiting while in Orlando last year? The area that has been a hotbed for LSU targets the past 15 years.

The only thing that hurts with this game is that its not primetime slot

If you are one of the posters ITT looking for an advantage of having been selected for the Texas Bowl, you should go back and look at the 2016 prospects that attended the game against Wisconsin. Many of the top players in the Houston area attended the game with family and friends who were able to spend some time with players and coaches before and after the game. They would likely do the same had we been in Houston on December 29th. That being said, I'm glad we have the pleasure of going in dry against the Golden Domers.

It could matter to some Houston area recruits who would've attended the game. It's not a crazy idea

How would this be possible, since December 15-January 15 is a DEAD period?

Playing anywhere doesn't help with recruiting anymore. Games are all nationally televised now, it's not 1990 anymore.

This is correct. Almost all our games are on national television. All recruits around the country know who we are. Whether we play Texas, ND, or any other team in a bowl makes no material difference in recruiting.

i dont think it is a big deal. We played in texas twice, any recruits for this cycle that havent seen us play would be a long shot anyway.

I dont mind the matchup or the venue. Playing at 2:00 on a Tuesday isnt giving the game much national exposure though.

Why are you slapping your face at me???

You honestly think one bowl game makes a real difference in recruiting???

As if a very good player is on the fence between us and Texas and decided to attend LSU because we beat them??? Come on, now.

The recruit can see all of our games on TV. He already knows exactly who we are, who the coaches are, what schemes we run, our win/loss record, and our ability to put guys in the NFL, etc.

To think it gives us any material advantage is just a stretch.

People also dont understand that the night games usually means less time the recruits spend with the coaches. The coaches are preparing their team to play not running around playing patty cake with parents. When the game ends and it is closer to midnight, they still arent running around playing patty cake with the parents. Earlier games means more time after the game to spend with the recruits.

we play there every other year anyway. For the 2015 cycle, we can say your parents can come watch you in Austin in 2018.
