The LSU defensive backs go from fantastic to sensational on field turf. None of the slipping you've seen the last few weeks. Mingo and Montgomery will also pick up a half-step on pass plays.

I thought the Superdome field is synthetic grass made to duplicate grass

yeah, but it doesnt get chewed up with divots and such, stays pristine throughout the whole game and doesnt take a beating over the course of a season

Definitely.

Bama struggled with LSUs option with Jefferson and Ford, who is the "speed" RB. Historically, turf plays faster, so it could turn out to be the difference between a 1st down or 4th and 2 or something like that.

Everything fitz said plus LSU will be even faster to the corner on offense and defense. This should negate some of our weakness at linebacker and some of Bama's strenght at linebacker.

Probably the most important is for the kickers. The game will have climate-controlled atmosphere in the dome. Great news for kickers in the fact they don't have to predict wind environment, bad planting of the foot, or unleveled spot. I guess we will see how good the Bama kicker really is.

Well, Bama definitely gets an advantage over normal Bama kicking then.

Yes, I did....and I also know that this point has been beat into submission and wonder whether it really needs to be asked again.

Funny, everyone else in this thread seems to think it's a worthwhile conversation

It is worth discussion, but you're a troll and people react to trolls a certain way. You trolling him afterward doesn't help.

It's okay though. Carry on a real discussion regardless if it's been said. 90% of any post here has already been discussed. Gotta pass the time though.

This will obviously speed up the game but to whose benefit?

We're faster on both sides of the ball. It may help their RBs, particularly TR, but I think we have a slight edge over Bama on a fast track - likewise, I think they would have the advantage on a sloppy field.

Guess others aren't as tired of it as I am then.

In my limited, "unorganized" football days - playing on turf is much more enjoyable, and you do seem to have a quicker step.

In grass, it seems to be too thick...your feet sink into it more, and it takes more effort to run in grass.

Turf is all level, flat, just the right amount of give. I can't really explain it, but there is a definite difference...obviously.

Will it effect the game THAT much? I'm sure it will be a minor thing to watch out for, but any advantage is better than no advantage.

Bama's LB's will be lightening fast in the Dome.

Here are some fun facts about LSU playing in domes:

- LSU has played 13 games in domes since 2000.

- All but 1 of those games were against ranked opponents (Tulane).

- Average rank of Top-25 opponents (all but Tulane): 10.8

- LSU's record in these games: 12-1 (Only loss came to UGA in 2005. LSU went on to beat Miami 40-3 a few weeks later in the same building)

- Average score in these games: 34-20 LSU

I may be mistaken, but wouldn't the turf speed up both teams to the point where they play faster but just as fast (comparatively) as on grass?
