They used to not care if the student ID matched the ticket.

I always felt bad for people scrambling to get tickets to big games but the real answer is they should have gotten their season tickets.

I always felt bad for students scrambling to get good seats in the student section and didn't want to do that myself, so I formed a student organization for me and a few dozen others to get reserved student tickets. Only $4 more per game when I was there, and that is well worth it for another couple hours of pre-game tailgating.

ID does not have to match the ticket, but it is still supposed to be your ID.

I.E. I am allowed to use your student ticket with my own student ID, but I'm not allowed to use your student ticket and your ID.

I'm pretty sure they only do the student guest pass tickets for non-SEC games

I'd rather know I have a ticket to the game

I do not recall any student being turned away. No reserve seating. Student section was from about 30 yard line to the middle of the north end zone. The Band had from the 30 to the 50 yard line.

This was changed after the Washington game in 1983. Tiger Stadium officially held about 78,000; for that game attendance was 82,390. Overage was all from the student section getting in with just their ID's. We were sitting in aisles, on steps, on the retaining wall between sections; anywhere we could. THAT was what made the change to having to get actual paper tickets in advance; they were able to limit the number distributed.

But while I was there (1983-1986) they were still FREE, as were the "date tickets" which was just your regular student tickets with a little paper ticket stapled to it. My then-girlfriend (now wife) who was in high school and then college in New Orleans, used to come to just about every game with me for free.

Later, after I graduated LSU and she was at LSU Med School in New Orleans in the early '90s, she would get a few date tickets and student tickets via the med school-- also for FREE. They had the same ticket deal, but med school students rarely went to games. She'd also borrow a couple of male med students ID's for the weekend. While she was studying, my buddies and I would go to games on those tickets and ID's and have a blast.

That was Brodhead's fault. The year before, the students did not show up for the Tulane game (it was on Thanksgiving weekend) so he decided the students would not show up and he sold 1500-2000 tickets to the Washington game that were located in the student section. I think the next year was when you had to get the paper tickets. A lot of students would get the paper tickets just keep Brodhead from selling tickets in the student section.

I regret not doing this.

From 1979 to 1983 all you had to do was show your student ID. No questions asked . We should’ve beat Bama in 79. Greatest game was when we got a busload of people and went to legion field in Birmingham and watched our Tigers absolutely roar to victory and put a legend in his grave. We had a phenomenal defensive football team that year

I never paid for a game. Back in the dark ages, the students got in for free. Also, I danced for the band so ... no ticket or student ID required. They let me in because of the costume.

Another cool thing about that year. (74) the first game was against Colorado and was the last ever panty raid. I actually got a pair that must have been a foot wide with every girls name and number on a floor in Power (was a girls dorm at the time)

In 1978 - 1982, we just used our Student ID and got into every LSU sporting event. Ah, the good ole days."

THIS. And the student section went almost to the 50 yard line. LSU band was in the corner. U High students sat where the LSU band is now.

It was included in the $88 semester tuition in 1975 IIRC.

I think it made the student section better. You had to arrive early to make sure you got seats (and even earlier to get good seats).

Game against Washington in 83 (before I was a student) there were students sitting in all of the isles. Fire Marshall must have been drunk for that game.
