I think it will be hard to make the NC given where we are at this moment, I think 10-2 with a great bowl game is more likely. But I also believe we will be more strongly in the hunt next year with Mett having a year's experience and the caliber of people we will have coming back.
I am far from a negatiger and have scorn for those who constantly trash the team. I'm just calling it like I see it at this moment in time. I hope I'm wrong and we wupp FSU in the NC.

Agree 100%. But at what point does this happen. 5 weeks in to the season and not there yet? I swear to all things I love LSU, but you can't help but wonder.

Thats the scary part. You would think it would be sooner but when guys are dropping like flies, there is always someone trying to get caught up with the rest of the group. That, IMO, is a huge part of the problem. When you have injuries, not only do you lose a talented guy, but you also have to spend more time teaching the back ups and less time focusing on the unit as a whole. That is why we continue to see mental lapses out there IMO.

I don't. This is not the team that started camp. To many lossed to overcome and they just aren't playing together. It appears from the outside to me they are losing swagger/confidence.

i get that… but the only thing i can't understand is how do you justify thinking, based on the evidence given to you thus far with the play on the field to this point, that that light will indeed "go on"?

Its too early for me to assume it wont I guess. Not ready to concede.

this is where i, and alot of other posters, differ from your optimism… going by their play, the current roster (with injuries, of course), and the slate of games, it's hard to see how you can remain optimistic, other than just relying on your fandom "faith" or hope

Maybe it faith, but if you look at the past few years, they havent shown me that we will just fall out of contention. We are always in the mix for the SECCG or a great bowl game. I guess that is what keeps me positive.

going by past years, yeah, i'd still very much be on the more "positive" side…. but this season, thus far, has much, much different feel, at least to me… combined with key injuries/suspensions, and i just think we are a year away, at most, from being a contender….

I appreciate that.

This offseason seemed so long and sucked because we got outGumped in the Championship Game. It felt like the season would never get here. Now that it is, I refuse to spend my weeks in misery. As soon as we lose, Ill be one pissed off son of a bitch, but by Tuesday Ill be posting again and looking forward to the next one. The season seems so short, might as well enjoy it.

Anybody who thinks this team has been at their full potential the last few weeks is poorly mistaken.

This team has been sleepwalking through this schedule.

I have a feeling the sleepwalking damaged their confidence. I was pretty confident this was a NC caliber team preseason, but not anymore. NC caliber talent, but not a team. A great showing vs UF could change that however.

Right now, it isn't a NC caliber team.

If we can overcome these injuries and begin to progress this year, I think next year is gonna be great. It would be awesome if we could rise to the challenge and show what kind of character we have on this team. I just want to see the kids fight. This year is going to be a struggle because of those losses, but we could be a much better team because of it.

here's the MAIN thing. there are not many nc caliber teams. I don't see florida or s. carolina as a nc caliber team. so that leaves LSU, bama, oregon and fl.state. no team has won nc in last 7 or 8 years based on offense. I don't see oregon as
an eventual champion.

My opinion at this point is we won't make the NC,based on past performance. That could change depending on what happens Saturday.I think everyone is guessing at this point so its hard to diss anyone's opinion.I am not a negatiger but I see so many shortcomings that I think will hurt us against quality opponents and ultimately cost us 2 or 3 games.

Did anyone notice we had trouble driving the ball Saturday? And don't tell me its because we scored on long plays. We couldn't sustain a drive against Towson! The first five times we had the ball in their territory we didn't score a point.

And defensively Towson drove the ball on us.On their second TD their line whipped us at the goal and 77 got pancaked.I think our defense is strong but not like last year. I think we give up points in the next 5 games and I'm concerned about our ability to score on quality defenses.Everyone knows of our multiple problems in the passing game but I have concerns about our ability to consistently pound the ball like we were able to do last year.

I think teams load the box against us and dare us to throw.Who knows whether we will throw and whether those efforts will be successful or whether we continue ,the vast majority of the time , to try and run anyway.

And I know our guys were flat against and unmotivated against Towson and that explains part of the unimpressive showing.

I hope that I'm wrong and all that thinking on my part is misguided.I hope we correct our many weaknesses and run the table! But I remember the days of Stoval,Archer,Hallman, and DiNardo and I can live happily with 10 or 11 wins this year.
