and that's against soft competition.

this is THE concern, in a nutshell…. how does some of the vocal fanbase ASSUME, based on what has been shown, that they all of a sudden "fix" the ailment, when they haven't done it yet, and they are about be playing TOUGHER competition…. no more gimme games to figure it out, or work on timing and drops, etc….

like i've said before, we have what we have at this point… but from what we've seen, my OPINION is it's not quite enough this year….

I believe that our defense is good enough to give us a chance to win every game we play. I tend to doubt that we will win the BCSNG this year, but I believe that our defense will give the Tigers a chance.

I think if we make it through this week we're fine. The other two big games are at home, Bama USCe. I'm more comfortable having those two come to us than i am about going to Florida. I still think we come out with the win in the Swamp and make it to Miami, but that's just me.

Like most optimist on this board, I believe that its more of an execution and mental lapse issue. The formula for our success has been proven to work when executed properly. It has not been executed properly yet. If a light goes off with some of the players and they grasp what it is that has been missing, we can be the team we all expected. That very well could happen this weekend. Until we lose 2, I will continue to believe we have a shot.

this defense...when it wants to be...is good enough to compete in every game, you're right.

but there will be games where the offense is needed to do more than just chew up clock and grind out games.

The A&M game is a prime example of that, that's a team that is capable of putting up alot of points in a hurry, making the game a shootout. I'm just hesitant to believe that our offense can go score for score with them.

This feels a little like 2008. Undefeated going to Gainesville, but with sloppy play against Auburn and Moo U. Admittedly that year we had serious QB problems, finally having to rely on an overmatched Andrew Hatch, but this year's OL issues are somewhat analogous.

I think that if this team can be motivated and stop the miscues that they will be fine.

The defense will keep us in games and the offense just needs to execute in the Red Zone and stop turning the ball over.

I actually think the biggest problem has been injuries. Do I have this right? LSU has lost, since spring practice, its starting RB (Blue), LT (Faulk), FB (Copeland), LB (Tahj), CB (Mathieu). That's 5 of 22 starters, or nearly a quarter of our starting lineup. That's a lot of personnel losses.

I'm not as panicked by unfocused play against crappy teams. The issue going forward is replacing injured/suspended players. I still think we can win the title, but it comes down to our depth coming through.

Agree 100%. But at what point does this happen. 5 weeks in to the season and not there yet? I swear to all things I love LSU, but you can't help but wonder.

FWIW, I dont see you as being a Negatiger. I think you are being realistic. If that is how you see it, then thats fine. As long as you arent pinning everything on one person or coach and give a valid reason to disagree, how could anyone argue that.

i get that… but the only thing i can't understand is how do you justify thinking, based on the evidence given to you thus far with the play on the field to this point, that that light will indeed "go on"?

this is where i, and alot of other posters, differ from your optimism… going by their play, the current roster (with injuries, of course), and the slate of games, it's hard to see how you can remain optimistic, other than just relying on your fandom "faith" or hope…. i had that "faith" until this week, when after being told they are "working on getting it fixed" and then SEEING it wasn't fixed… i realize that we have what we have, and compared to some of the other teams out there, it's just not quite good enough this season….

i "hope" i'm wrong though….

You are absolutely right.

As most have already said, this Saturday is the litmus test. Let's pray all the issues are addressed and LSU plays to their potential. If they do, I do think they get the victory. Just haven't seen it yet.

5-0 so we haven't been eliminated yet. I have watched LSU for too many years and watched them sleepwalk through easier parts of their schedule and then get up for the tougher teams. I think we have a good chance at beating everyone on our schedule. It's up to the players. I know I will be supporting them as much as I can.

you surely are one of the only ones that are tolerable or understanding to another's opinions….

it never ceases to amaze me how often your opinion is judged as wrong on this board…. you could say you like the purple jerseys (which i don't, but i digress…), and you get ripped apart for that opinion…. not a factual claim, an opinion….
