so why does our athletic department have a drug policy if they don't want it to actually be the policy?

Not sure what all happened and how much of it was a 3rd or 4th drug violation.

I just cant help but wonder if there is more to this story even if parts of it are not drug related.

If the argument is that the policy is not being applied properly, I would not object to the kid getting a fair review.

I would think that Les and Alleva made the decision to dismiss him with facts that support the policy, but who knows, Les has been known to have issues with numbers in the past.

Failing 3 drug tests shows the character of a kid. Continued to do what he wanted to do and not follow policy. Character and backbone of LM would be very weak if he was allowed back. This would open the door for more drama and lose his team. We will be very successful with or without him so just let him be and decide where he wants to transfer. I sure as hell hate all the negative exposure we have been getting from this. LM will do the right thing and wish him luck at his next stop. Would any business owner allow a habitual drug user to keep a job after being suspended multiple times? There is a trust issue here and TM7 clearly can't be counted upon if he can't at least stay clean reporting back this football season. Hard to go into battle and game plan not knowing if your supposed leader will ever be around.

Would a business owner allow an employee to keep their job after 3 failed drug tests?

Depends on how much value that employee brings to the company.

Didn't you just start a thread saying the same exact thing and it got whacked?

Well in this case he can't be too valuable because we are still favorite in every game. Alcohol is legal but if you continue to come to work drunk you will be fired. He was on a free ride at LSU. Just follow a few simple rules and that's it. He did not learn his lesson obviously.

Never give up on a kid. I learned this many years ago as a young Coach. Mathieu could go to another school, but he wants to stay HERE. This is not bad publicity, this is GREAT publicity in that it shows that LSU cares for the PERSON, not just the player. I spoke to some St Aug people today that are closely watching this situation to see "if LSU has their kid's back." Right or wrong, that's how they look at it. If we want to continue getting kids out of NOLA, this is a no-brainer.

"How many chances are enough?"

I guess it depends on whose child it is.

If I had an employee that failed 3 drug tests and I told them take a year off, do counseling, subject to drug tests and they turned it around I would take them back. He's not getting off Scott free. I'm sure anyone on the team sitting on strike 2 are shitting their pants over Les dismissing one of his best players.

So you are saying LM has to make a decision based on what ST Aug supporters think? I seriously doubt LM cares about what anyone thinks of his decision. If we lose out on the RB from ST Aug because of this decision then oh well. Some of you think the world is coming to an end. We won't skip a beat. Goes to show you what kind of LM is capable of putting together.

No he has to make a decision based on helping an obviously troubled young man.
The recruiting in the city of New Orleans would be a bonus.

I never said anything about St Aug supporters. I just think being off the team for a year , paying out of pocket tuition and doing the appropriate counseling/ drug testing is a severe enough punishment. I know what your saying about already given chances. But if the rules say he can sit out a year then why not.

Yea LM gave him multiple chances. He could of kicked him off for good last year but he didn't. I am sure the player knew what and what not to do and he made his decision. LM is not giving up on him. He is allowing him to transfer else where so he can still play football.

So lets get the kid some help hold him out this season bring him back in a year IF he passes all drug test! Geez man, to write off a kid that has meant so much to this university would suck. The fans that loved this kid last year and all the sudden hate him can go f... off!

Why would he sit out an entire year and come back? Do you know for sure he said this? He can go elsewhere and play and then turn pro. Why would prolong his NFL career? No one is turning their back on him. He did that to the team. If he was a non starter half of you on here would care less what would happen.
