I always felt he was a good coach but a poor recruiter. Have you seen an improvement in your WRs yet?

Our WRs drop too many passses. Not sure if they are not listening to Ball or the WRs are not focusing.

Tony Ball has nothing to do with LSU being ranked last in the SEC and 116th passing offense in the NCAA.

We had some drops when he was at UGA but not many. Maybe it will take some time for them to adapt to what he's trying to do.

Can you knock a coach when WR's drop passes? To me, that's on the athlete, not the coach. I see a big difference this season in route running, spacing, and breaking press coverage. So I would give him a fairly high grade in year one.

Absolutely. Are there fundamentals to catching the football? Are there an array of different catches to be practiced?

You cant just say "See the ball and catch it!"

Are the receivers blocking well as a whole? That should be the question in our "offense".

I understand that he cant go out there and catch it for him, but he should be able to put the WR group in enough practice situations to catch every ball to the best of their ability. IF they still cant catch, you're responsible for recruiting spaz receivers.

To my untrained eye, Ball's done an average job so far but it's early to make a fair judgment IMO.

Trust me, I get what you're saying. WR's go through catching drills every day (hand placement, above the waist, below the waist, back shoulder throws, and about 20 more). My point is, these are Division 1, SEC WRs and should shoulder some of the blame for dropping a ball. For example, Dural against Eastern Michigan (I believe) ran a wide open curl, Harris puts it between his numbers, and he flat out dropped it. I'm not going to sit here and blame the coach for that.

I guess what I'm saying is, if the WR is using everything he's coached, ie proper hand placement, and he still drops it for whatever reason, then that's on him.

Well then it's on Ball for putting him in the game. If the dude doesnt produce, find someone that will. And that's what almost happened to Dural earlier this season.

I know these are not pro athletes and we try not to blame them as much, but drops are on the player(s). And contrary to your belief, you don't bench one of your best WR because of a drop. Again, not to compare to the NFL, but TO had a HOF career and he led the league in drops for years.

Good point, and that has some merit. I think if playing time/consequences were based more on that we would see improvement. But newsflash: Dupre and Dural will play no matter how many balls they drop, and they know that. They are talented and mix in some good plays too.

Even Jerry Rice dropped balls in games. And I agree it's on his coach to figure out what's going wrong and fix it. Whether it is lack of focus, an injury, bad technique, or whatever. I know Dural and spoke to him after the Florida game. I gave him a hard time about his drops and ragged him about dropping an easy flat route against UF. He said his coaches ripped him a new one on the sideline after that play and threatened to bench him. He turned around and had a very solid game. With that being said, and getting back on topic, Ball addressed the issue and productivity increased. So, at least in that respect, he is doing a good job.

ball can't catch it for them but the WR's have been hot and cold all year and are seldom being AGGRESSIVE going up and getting the ball. sure it happens sometimes but they have a lot of mental errors it seems like.

it's on ball to coach them up and put them in a position to succeed. he picks who he has out there running routes.

Receiver dropping passes has nothing to do with the coach.
