My complaint is about the lack of basic PR and communication of the status of the search that has gone one. I think that was a mistake for a program whose fan base is a bit concerned.

Why would they announce a new DC before they hire one?

Because:
A - we don't know who to hire
B - we have narrowed down our choices on who we want to hire and haven't made an offer
C - we made an offer and it was refused
D - we made an offer but it has not been accepted yet
E - we made an offer and it was agreed upon "in principle" but negotiations are still on-going
F - an offer has been made and the offer has been accepted but they are delaying the announcement just to piss you off

Actually Florida and Auburn aggressively and quickly found their DCs. It looks to me that this is how the upper echelon programs perform when hiring.
