There are like 5 people who should have their numbers retired first

he was great but not great enough to get number retired. Got to have a Shaq and Pistol Pete type legacy. Shaq and Pistol are legendary. Dorsey isn't legendary. Dorsey isn't really known beyond LSU or serious sports fans

You could say the same thing about Billy Cannon and Tommy Cassanova, but they both have their numbers retired.

You could make the argument that Jerry Stovall should have his number retired before Dorsey. Stovall was an All-American and finished 2nd in the 1962 Heisman voting. He also came in as a last second HC after the death of Bo Rein.

Personally, I don't particularly like retiring numbers in football unless the player did something truly special such as winning the Heisman. But Dorsey is as well know to Tiger fans as both Cannon and Cassanova

What if we retired every great players number? And I can easily name dozens. We wouldn't have enough numbers for all our players. Recognize him in some other way.

Look, Dorsey was great, but if we retire his number, we also need to retire about 25 other numbers too. Then it becomes a meaningless gesture.

I'm more in favor of a Ring of Honor rather than retiring numbers

That would be awesome. It would look great in Tiger Stadium.

probably not an individual that is more significant/synonymous to LSU football

pretty big man in our history as well

Dorsey was kind of overrated to be honest. Good player. Not once in a lifetime type of player.

It will come to past
He will have his day in the limelight

Did Dorsey ever finish school?
That could be some of it.

Gotta take care of Stovall well before we get to Dorsey.

LSU has retired only one number in football, #20 for our only Heisman winner. IMO, that's one too many. Dorsey was great, and so were a lot of others. Retiring all the jerseys of all the great players would leave us without enough numbers.

No more numbers should be retired imo. A ring of honor is what I would prefer to have . That being said, I think LSU dicked up retiring Casanova's jersey. It would be hard to argue against Dorsey not being at his level imho. I feel it would okay to retire his number and then start adding guys to the new Ring of Honor. I would start with Stoval and Charles Alexander. Faulk, etc can be added one player at a time every other year for the first decade. After that decade is up, I would add just one player every five years. Just my .02.

Retired numbers should be extremely scarce.

Look, Dorsey was great, but so were a lot of other LSU football players. Some got awards, some didn't, but there's plenty to debate for fans who saw them all.

For those rushing to say Kevin Faulk, you have to include Dalton Hilliard too.
